00:01:26.882 --> 00:01:29.712
Welcome everyone to the Topsoil Insider podcast.

00:01:29.712 --> 00:01:32.180
My name is Krista and I am your host.

00:01:32.180 --> 00:01:32.903
Today.

00:01:32.903 --> 00:01:35.969
I have the pleasure of interviewing Annette Ernie.

00:01:35.969 --> 00:01:45.487
She is the founder of the Real Housewives of Topsoil Island, and that is a real with a R-E-E-L, and I love the name so much.

00:01:45.748 --> 00:01:46.790
How are you doing, annette?

00:01:46.790 --> 00:01:47.472
I am great.

00:01:47.472 --> 00:01:49.128
Thank you so much for having me today.

00:01:49.388 --> 00:01:51.058
I just love what your organization does.

00:01:51.058 --> 00:01:53.310
Thank you, and I want more people to know about it.

00:01:53.310 --> 00:01:56.245
It's very popular already as it is Listeners.

00:01:56.245 --> 00:02:02.718
I think you're really gonna enjoy this conversation because Annette is so easy to talk to and I just I love my phone conversation.

00:02:02.718 --> 00:02:06.489
If I could have recorded that, I would have published that.

00:02:06.909 --> 00:02:07.753
It would have been perfect.

00:02:07.873 --> 00:02:10.068
But we're gonna do it again right here for the listeners.

00:02:10.088 --> 00:02:10.591
Let's do it.

00:02:11.013 --> 00:02:14.109
So tell me how you came up with that awesome name.

00:02:14.349 --> 00:02:23.045
It actually started out back in the day, everybody was watching the Real Housewives I still do, me too, and it was actually funny to me To begin with.

00:02:23.045 --> 00:02:28.455
It was all a bunch of entrepreneurs, women volunteering in their community, trying to make their communities better.

00:02:28.455 --> 00:02:36.425
So when I started this venture I thought this is it Real Housewives of Topsoil Island, even though I didn't want to copy them per se.

00:02:36.425 --> 00:02:46.985
So I decided I was Bell Like R-E-E-L, because Surf City back in the day, when I moved here over 30 years ago, was a small fishing village.

00:02:46.985 --> 00:02:50.662
So I thought I will put that together and I'll see what I can come up with.

00:02:50.662 --> 00:02:52.853
So Real Housewives of Topsoil Island is stuck.

00:02:53.194 --> 00:02:55.044
So clever yeah, I really love it.

00:02:55.063 --> 00:02:55.747
I love it too.

00:02:55.848 --> 00:02:59.502
You also you mentioned in that phone interview reeling in the family.

00:02:59.502 --> 00:03:03.903
We come here, we vacation, we hang out together and you're just reeling people in Absolutely.

00:03:04.044 --> 00:03:05.087
Love it Absolutely.

00:03:05.087 --> 00:03:07.201
So many people who want to get involved.

00:03:07.201 --> 00:03:10.700
That love to get reeled in by the Real Housewives of Topsoil Island Right.

00:03:10.782 --> 00:03:12.508
Yes, absolutely Okay.

00:03:12.508 --> 00:03:17.525
Let's talk about what it is that the Real Housewives organization does.

00:03:17.585 --> 00:03:22.424
Okay, what we actually do is we ride bicycles for families who are going through breast cancer.

00:03:22.424 --> 00:03:27.407
Starting at the south end of the island, we would ride our bicycles 26.2 miles.

00:03:27.407 --> 00:03:30.903
So I thought, okay, we'll do this for get the athletes involved as well.

00:03:30.903 --> 00:03:34.522
We decided we'd start raising money for families who are going through breast cancer.

00:03:34.522 --> 00:03:39.223
The sad thing about breast cancer is it is really a hot demon.

00:03:39.223 --> 00:03:43.022
I guess you could say some people can shake it and some people absolutely cannot.

00:03:43.022 --> 00:03:48.229
There's some people who hang on to this for 10 years, some of them who unfortunately don't come out of it all.

00:03:48.229 --> 00:04:10.495
So what we decided to do was make it accessible for them to have financial help right now, and so my goal was to help these families pay their rent, pay their mortgage, get Christmas for their children whatever they needed that money for right now, because there aren't so many families who actually lose their homes and lose everything because of this disease.

00:04:10.495 --> 00:04:12.997
So we just thought we can help them today.

00:04:12.997 --> 00:04:13.698
I love it.

00:04:13.698 --> 00:04:13.998
Yes.

00:04:14.519 --> 00:04:16.745
So tell me how it all got started.

00:04:17.307 --> 00:04:19.636
I can honestly say it was a God's sin for me.

00:04:19.636 --> 00:04:22.165
God literally laid this on my heart.

00:04:22.165 --> 00:04:27.975
I was sitting there one day and obviously I know a lot of people and I have the gift for gab.

00:04:27.975 --> 00:04:35.949
Even when I was growing up, my mother used to say all the time oh my gosh, your phone rings all the time and I'm like everybody doesn't know what we're doing this weekend.

00:04:35.949 --> 00:04:39.444
So they came up with this thing telephone, telegraph, telenet.

00:04:39.745 --> 00:04:43.384
Oh, that's funny, I get the word out about everything that's happening.

00:04:43.384 --> 00:04:43.925
Say it again.

00:04:44.187 --> 00:04:46.276
A telephone telegraph and telenet.

00:04:46.375 --> 00:04:48.562
Oh, that's so funny, so I do.

00:04:48.642 --> 00:04:51.470
I love to share everything that I enjoy.

00:04:51.470 --> 00:04:57.439
But anyway, this was laid on my heart out of the blue about my gift for gab and what I could do to give back.

00:04:57.439 --> 00:05:03.867
And God tugged on my heart and kept tugging on my heart and I was like, okay, lord, I hear you, but I don't hear you.

00:05:03.867 --> 00:05:05.492
What do you want me to do here?

00:05:05.492 --> 00:05:20.600
But I had told several of my girlfriends that I really wanted to ride my bicycle down the island, because we all go up and down this island all the time but we actually don't stop just to look at the beauty that God gives us every day on this island.

00:05:20.600 --> 00:05:27.954
So I thought if we ride our bicycle, we'll take our time and we can see everything closer to the ground, not quite as fast.

00:05:27.954 --> 00:05:29.379
So that's how it all began.

00:05:29.379 --> 00:05:31.826
And just talking with your girlfriends, talking to my girlfriends.

00:05:31.826 --> 00:05:34.283
So we decided, okay, let's do this ride.

00:05:34.283 --> 00:05:41.449
The next thing I know 42 people said we're in and we weren't even asking anybody, we were just telling them what we were doing About.

00:05:41.490 --> 00:05:49.588
42 people decided that they would ride with us and somebody spoke up that day and said, hey, why don't we do this for somebody on the island?

00:05:49.588 --> 00:05:51.283
So I said that's perfect.

00:05:51.283 --> 00:05:57.805
So I actually put it out on Facebook and said does anybody know anyone who needs some help?

00:05:57.805 --> 00:06:02.494
And so I got so many responses with a girl's name.

00:06:02.494 --> 00:06:07.612
Her name was Renee Callahan and I called Renee and she was a single mother.

00:06:07.612 --> 00:06:16.843
She was in dentistry, just like me, as a dental assistant, and I said Renee, you don't know me, but my name is Annette Ernie and I'm the founder of the Real Housewives of Topsile Island.

00:06:17.346 --> 00:06:20.779
And I said I want to make this ride all about you that day.

00:06:20.779 --> 00:06:21.783
How do you feel about it?

00:06:21.783 --> 00:06:25.577
And of course, renee broke down and cried, and cried.

00:06:25.577 --> 00:06:30.882
We decided we would get everybody who was riding a bicycle to donate 20 bucks right.

00:06:30.882 --> 00:06:37.466
A number of people had heard about this event and the end of this event was going to be held at Sears Landing.

00:06:37.466 --> 00:06:43.540
Hap Alexander used to open his doors for us all the time at Sears Landing and just say come on in, you can have your meetings here.

00:06:43.540 --> 00:06:44.423
We did.

00:06:44.423 --> 00:06:50.250
And so we rode our bicycles that day 26.2 miles and we came back to Sears Landing.

00:06:50.250 --> 00:07:08.795
And when we got to Sears Landing, we were so excited because so many people from our community came just to see if we completed the ride, I'm sure, but they were also willing to give, and Renee Callahan, her son, jeffrey, came and we ended up raising $2,800 for them on that day.

00:07:08.925 --> 00:07:14.394
On the first ride and, to be honest with you, I thought, wow, that's a lot of money.

00:07:14.394 --> 00:07:15.389
That was awesome.

00:07:15.389 --> 00:07:21.033
And shortly after that another friend, rhonda Jones, was diagnosed with cancer.

00:07:21.033 --> 00:07:23.512
So we thought, okay, let's do this again.

00:07:23.512 --> 00:07:32.132
So we rode probably I'm gonna say probably six to eight months later we did it again and we raised $8,000 that day.

00:07:32.132 --> 00:07:36.271
Oh, my gosh, that's a big jump, big jump, and God bless Rhonda.

00:07:36.271 --> 00:07:38.651
We lost Rhonda to her battle of cancer.

00:07:38.651 --> 00:07:41.733
I'm sorry to hear that, I am too, and we just miss her so much.

00:07:41.733 --> 00:07:43.552
She was such an inspiration to this island.

00:07:43.552 --> 00:07:45.584
But we raised $8,000.

00:07:45.584 --> 00:07:54.471
So then we thought, okay, we can't do this every month, we just need to start doing something once a year and just make it a huge event.

00:07:54.865 --> 00:07:55.649
So that's what we did.

00:07:55.649 --> 00:08:00.115
We have been blessed by this community to the nth degree.

00:08:00.115 --> 00:08:07.934
It is not one business owner has ever told me no about having an event at their establishment.

00:08:07.934 --> 00:08:11.194
Shuck and Shack, I mean gill against there.

00:08:11.194 --> 00:08:14.091
I mean there's nobody who's ever said no, you can't have a sign up here.

00:08:14.091 --> 00:08:17.173
We do four registrations before each ride.

00:08:17.173 --> 00:08:20.692
I saw that, yeah, which gives a lot of the businesses.

00:08:20.692 --> 00:08:25.550
Number one we wanted to make sure our businesses were taken care of after the season.

00:08:25.550 --> 00:08:31.771
Oh yeah, so we always try to do something after the season's over so they can stay running and working all year long.

00:08:31.771 --> 00:08:32.212
Nice.

00:08:32.273 --> 00:08:33.315
Yes, very good idea.

00:08:34.404 --> 00:08:35.991
Of course now they're busy all year long.

00:08:36.144 --> 00:08:38.312
Things have changed around here a little bit in that regard.

00:08:38.384 --> 00:08:39.529
Changed dramatically?

00:08:39.529 --> 00:08:43.431
They have, so we do four registrations and it's been very successful.

00:08:43.431 --> 00:08:49.955
Each establishment always hires live entertainment, so it keeps all of our people there all day long.

00:08:49.955 --> 00:08:52.373
We sell all of our swag that day.

00:08:52.373 --> 00:08:55.289
This is the registrations, all the registrations.

00:08:55.289 --> 00:08:59.615
Yes, we do that, probably about a month out before the bike ride.

00:08:59.784 --> 00:09:03.753
So we go ahead and talk about those Sure let's talk about them, absolutely Okay.

00:09:04.485 --> 00:09:08.672
So this year, starting August 26th, surf City Line is gonna do the kickoff for us.

00:09:08.672 --> 00:09:11.250
Okay, so we'll have registration from one o'clock until four.

00:09:11.250 --> 00:09:18.669
Then on September 9th, the Beach Bumps Pizza and Grill that is actually at the north end of the island They'll be doing their kickoff too.

00:09:18.669 --> 00:09:19.251
One to four.

00:09:19.251 --> 00:09:26.091
September 23rd is the trailer bar, who has been there from day one, and then September 30th the Shuck and Shack.

00:09:26.091 --> 00:09:33.214
Okay, they're all from one o'clock until four o'clock, all right, and just so you know, every establishment always has live entertainment for us.

00:09:33.214 --> 00:09:37.932
They also have their restaurants and bars open, so that's our way of giving back to them.

00:09:37.932 --> 00:09:46.471
So people who do come and register usually hang out and listen to some great music, have cocktails, have food and just enjoy a day of celebration.

00:09:46.471 --> 00:09:47.111
I love it.

00:09:47.111 --> 00:09:47.894
That's so great.

00:09:47.953 --> 00:09:51.386
It is great, so let's go to that annual bike ride that you're having.

00:09:51.386 --> 00:09:55.447
This year it happens to be on Saturday, october 7th, it's what?

00:09:55.447 --> 00:09:57.354
The first Saturday of every October?

00:09:57.354 --> 00:09:57.927
Is that how you?

00:09:57.967 --> 00:10:00.009
plan that we used to do it in April actually.

00:10:00.009 --> 00:10:13.212
Oh, okay, covid changed things for us, yeah, and so then the town actually told us what was available after COVID, restrictions were lifted and so October was perfect, because it's actually breast cancer awareness month.

00:10:13.212 --> 00:10:15.284
Oh, we're gonna stick with October forever.

00:10:15.284 --> 00:10:17.149
It's usually the first Saturday in October.

00:10:17.149 --> 00:10:18.153
Okay, absolutely.

00:10:21.212 --> 00:10:22.870
All right, so let's talk about that bike ride.

00:10:22.870 --> 00:10:23.966
Where does it start?

00:10:23.966 --> 00:10:25.149
What's the route?

00:10:25.149 --> 00:10:25.831
Where does it go?

00:10:25.831 --> 00:10:27.054
What time All?

00:10:27.095 --> 00:10:27.657
those good things.

00:10:27.657 --> 00:10:38.532
We do a beautiful opening ceremony and this is to honor all of our survivors and their families, because breast cancer is a family disease, so we get everybody in the circles.

00:10:38.532 --> 00:10:50.953
We have all of our survivors come and their families and we all hold hands around them and we usually have our mayor say a prayer for everybody that day to thank their family members and to pray around them all.

00:10:50.953 --> 00:10:53.513
The bike ride actually starts at nine o'clock.

00:10:53.513 --> 00:10:55.150
The opening ceremony started eight.

00:10:55.150 --> 00:10:57.371
We leave Soundside Park at nine o'clock.

00:10:57.371 --> 00:11:09.087
We ride down to the St Regis, turn around and come all the way back and there's numerous businesses that sponsor water stops all the way down the island, so you can never get thirsty, that's for sure.

00:11:09.565 --> 00:11:11.551
All right, I got a real question right here.

00:11:11.551 --> 00:11:15.212
As someone who is not very active.

00:11:15.212 --> 00:11:16.749
How hard is that ride?

00:11:17.345 --> 00:11:17.927
I've been doing.

00:11:17.927 --> 00:11:20.394
I've ridden every ride and I'm 63.

00:11:20.394 --> 00:11:21.316
I'll be 63.

00:11:21.316 --> 00:11:38.714
So I've ridden every single ride and there's days that is pouring down rain, there's days that the wind shifts and it turns on you and even, like the morning of the bike ride, my phone usually starts blowing up at six o'clock in the morning If it's raining, which it has rained tons of times, really.

00:11:38.714 --> 00:11:41.065
Yeah, and everybody's hey, annette, are we riding today?

00:11:41.065 --> 00:11:43.292
And I'm like did breast cancer stop or something?

00:11:43.292 --> 00:11:45.831
Cause these girls never, get a break.

00:11:45.945 --> 00:11:48.272
So I think a little bit of rain is fine with us today.

00:11:48.272 --> 00:11:49.195
I love that.

00:11:49.195 --> 00:11:59.551
So we have never stopped a bike ride so we have had to stop before because lightning and thunder has been so bad that we were like, okay, we better take cover for a minute.

00:11:59.551 --> 00:12:05.130
But we always complete that ride and I tell people all the time they ask me, annette, what if I don't complete the ride?

00:12:05.130 --> 00:12:08.890
I said I don't care, I got your money and that's all those women need.

00:12:08.890 --> 00:12:09.393
Is somebody.

00:12:09.865 --> 00:12:11.931
We need your money so we can have these families.

00:12:11.931 --> 00:12:15.311
All right, that makes me feel a little bit better, like I'm thinking about it.

00:12:15.311 --> 00:12:17.392
I'm like wow, that sounds like a really long ride.

00:12:18.768 --> 00:12:28.989
It is a long ride, but my granddaughter started this journey with me when she was probably eight and she is now 14 and she has ridden that ride, but I'll never forget one day.

00:12:28.989 --> 00:12:46.352
We were on our way back and her dad, my son Kane, is the logistics guy, so he has his crew, which my husband started with lighthouse marine construction from the very beginning, and they are always on the road in case anybody breaks down or they need to go back or if they just need to stall.

00:12:46.845 --> 00:12:47.769
Or if they have a flat tire.

00:12:47.769 --> 00:12:51.250
So they always pick everybody up who needs help or assistance.

00:12:51.250 --> 00:12:53.472
So there is somebody out there to help them at all times.

00:12:53.472 --> 00:12:57.613
But my granddaughter was peddling she's Gigi, how much further?

00:12:57.613 --> 00:13:00.559
And I was like see that yellow house way up there.

00:13:00.559 --> 00:13:03.211
She'd say yeah, and I was like it's further than that.

00:13:03.211 --> 00:13:05.452
I said Kane, it's okay.

00:13:05.452 --> 00:13:09.412
I said your dad is right behind us, you can get in his truck at any time.

00:13:09.412 --> 00:13:14.672
And she'd turn around and see him and she'd just pedal even harder, trying to know she was not giving up.

00:13:14.672 --> 00:13:15.695
So she never gave up?

00:13:15.725 --> 00:13:17.250
Did she make it all the way through?

00:13:17.250 --> 00:13:17.851
How about that Every?

00:13:17.871 --> 00:13:18.273
single time.

00:13:18.273 --> 00:13:20.952
And her little legs, they were so worn out.

00:13:20.952 --> 00:13:23.292
Kane said that she was asleep by the time they got home.

00:13:23.292 --> 00:13:25.549
Baby girl, yeah, sweet baby girl.

00:13:26.105 --> 00:13:32.626
But our bike ride does start at nine o'clock and it usually takes us probably two to three hours to ride that ride.

00:13:32.626 --> 00:13:34.129
If people are stopping to talk it.

00:13:34.129 --> 00:13:49.500
And I tell everybody all the time, this is not a race, this is a ride to enjoy the beauty that God really puts around us, that we take for granted every day that beautiful ocean, the intercoastal, so pretty, and you get to see all of that as you're riding.

00:13:49.500 --> 00:13:57.575
Then we finish up the ride and this year JM's on the water is hosting lunch for everybody and then we do a live auction and we do a silent auction.

00:13:57.575 --> 00:14:06.907
Now, my live auction is just wild.

00:14:06.907 --> 00:14:11.854
It becomes a bidding war and it's hysterical.

00:14:11.854 --> 00:14:12.695
It's hysterical.

00:14:12.754 --> 00:14:22.302
We have Gail Brent and Dale Pollart where the funniest two that I've ever seen at our event they get into bidding wars.

00:14:22.302 --> 00:14:34.076
Last year, andy Darden and his wife Leslie they owned Darden Farms in Clinton Anyway, they were here and one of my lovely girlfriends, tiffany, her mother passed with breast cancer.

00:14:34.076 --> 00:14:37.885
Tiffany is one of my big supporters and I just adore her.

00:14:37.885 --> 00:14:45.251
Tiffany and Andy got into this bidding war on this Tiki Tour and it went on and on.

00:14:45.251 --> 00:14:53.207
I finally the bid got up to $8,000 and I thought incredible I think the Tiki Tour usually is like $500 a night.

00:14:53.207 --> 00:14:55.000
It went up to $8,000.

00:14:55.159 --> 00:14:58.971
So Tiki Tours donates a tour for this live auction.

00:14:59.030 --> 00:15:05.575
They have donated a tour for us for the last couple years and it has brought in so much money for the Real Housewives.

00:15:05.615 --> 00:15:07.120
That's amazing it is amazing.

00:15:07.160 --> 00:15:13.201
But the year before last the Darden's actually bought it and I think they paid a couple thousand dollars for it.

00:15:13.201 --> 00:15:25.303
This year A friend of mine, tiffany, who's like I said her mother had passed from breast cancer and this is very near and dear to her heart she was like not seeing exactly who was bidding and we're all Bester friends.

00:15:25.303 --> 00:15:30.399
She's sitting there bidding and Andy Darden is over there just raising his hand.

00:15:30.399 --> 00:15:31.222
Oh, that's funny.

00:15:31.222 --> 00:15:33.275
So nobody knew who was actually bidding.

00:15:33.275 --> 00:15:49.159
I'm up the front with our auctioneer and I finally walk over to Tiffany and I said Tiffany, you're bidding against us because our whole group had gone last year, so the Darden's had won it last year and so we did a theme party.

00:15:49.159 --> 00:15:54.035
So last year we did a theme party and we did a 70s party.

00:15:54.035 --> 00:16:08.149
So all of us dressed up like the 70s and there was a group of 40 of us I'm probably mistaken and my husband, daryl, sings in a band and Ernie McAllister is also a performer on the island, so they were our entertainment on the Tiki Tour which was fantastic.

00:16:08.509 --> 00:16:12.861
So we had a big party going on and everybody was dressed like the 70s and it was hysterical.

00:16:13.003 --> 00:16:18.066
So how big is this Tiki Tour boat that you guys can all get 40 people on there?

00:16:18.066 --> 00:16:19.311
It fits 42 people.

00:16:19.311 --> 00:16:19.974
That's incredible.

00:16:19.974 --> 00:16:21.719
I did not know that their boats were that large.

00:16:21.719 --> 00:16:23.664
They go up and down the island all day long.

00:16:23.664 --> 00:16:25.807
I'm going to have to go set up an interview with them.

00:16:25.875 --> 00:16:29.937
You really should, but I have to say that's just one of the many things that we get donated.

00:16:29.937 --> 00:16:33.125
That Tiki Tour was outstanding, but I've had painting.

00:16:33.125 --> 00:16:45.254
Jeff Wetzel, who is now the mayor in Collin Ridge, donated one of his prints, as a matter of fact, that is one of the most amazing prints that I've ever seen and he sold that for $750 and at my event I think it went for $5,000.

00:16:46.075 --> 00:16:46.957
That's incredible.

00:16:46.957 --> 00:16:58.344
And then Jeff was holding the picture and he was like, and there was two people and it was again Dale Pollard and Gail Brent bidding against this and Jeff said, let's do another, I'll give another one.

00:16:58.464 --> 00:16:59.888
And you guys both pay the same.

00:17:00.154 --> 00:17:02.019
Everybody on this entire island.

00:17:02.019 --> 00:17:03.703
They're just all wanting to give back.

00:17:03.703 --> 00:17:10.347
Everybody can't give that kind of money, but everybody shows up every year and they give from their heart.

00:17:13.336 --> 00:17:19.298
I'm really learning as I do these interviews and I hear about the way that the businesses are giving back to the community.

00:17:19.298 --> 00:17:25.162
It's a really beautiful thing and I was not fully aware of how generous the businesses around here are.

00:17:25.162 --> 00:17:25.942
Oh my gosh.

00:17:25.942 --> 00:17:27.527
Yeah, it's pretty incredible to learn.

00:17:28.335 --> 00:17:32.788
We absolutely could not do it at all without our community.

00:17:33.089 --> 00:17:39.144
There's no way, and with our business partners on this island, they have never said no to us for anything.

00:17:39.144 --> 00:17:41.157
I love hearing that about where I live.

00:17:41.157 --> 00:17:44.109
Yeah, and it's so funny because we were all at.

00:17:44.109 --> 00:17:47.080
It's called the Ladies Connect in Hampstead and what it is.

00:17:47.080 --> 00:17:50.855
It's a group of women that the chamber put together and any woman can join.

00:17:50.855 --> 00:17:56.980
They're all entrepreneurs and they all just help each other with any kind of business direction that they need.

00:17:56.980 --> 00:17:58.164
So it was a great little event.

00:17:58.586 --> 00:18:09.104
But today I stood up and I talked about the real housewives for a minute, introducing myself, and I had two ladies afterwards come up and say we're new to the area, but we definitely want to be one of your sponsors this year.

00:18:09.104 --> 00:18:22.367
Nice, Because as big as this island has grown, I can only imagine what it is going to be like on October 7th to see how many people show up and show out and give back and just come together as a community.

00:18:22.367 --> 00:18:25.542
Honestly, this little island just shines all the time.

00:18:25.542 --> 00:18:30.305
I don't think there's anybody who has ever just said we're not sponsoring this year.

00:18:30.305 --> 00:18:36.030
They're like oh no, we're in and we're up and our sponsor this year because they know exactly what the money goes for.

00:18:36.432 --> 00:18:39.222
I have a group of women who sit on my board.

00:18:39.222 --> 00:18:40.929
I could not do it without these ladies.

00:18:40.929 --> 00:18:50.523
I handpicked every single one of these ladies because I trust them with everything and I have to say they are all such leaders in this community.

00:18:50.523 --> 00:18:53.654
Everybody else in this community trust them with everything that we do.

00:18:53.654 --> 00:18:55.878
I have Debbie Pekowski.

00:18:55.878 --> 00:19:07.854
She has been on my board ever since I started Susan Billet, Renee Rose, Neely Williams, Stacy Justice, Desi McAllister and myself and we did have one lovely lady.

00:19:07.854 --> 00:19:12.348
Her name was Kelly Droz and she sat on our board and she died with breast cancer.

00:19:12.830 --> 00:19:14.516
Yes, and y'all don't get paid.

00:19:14.636 --> 00:19:18.829
We all know we're all volunteers and we work on this diligently.

00:19:18.829 --> 00:19:27.922
We're always trying to find ways to better ourselves, to see what we can do differently, and just to see if we can make this event the best there is.

00:19:28.303 --> 00:19:37.819
Tell me about your planning process with these ladies, as you guys are leading up to the ride, of course as, leading up to the ride, we're out looking for sponsors, we're looking for donations.

00:19:38.000 --> 00:19:42.564
We go around to all the businesses and ask them what they would like to donate and so we can put it on the auction.

00:19:42.564 --> 00:19:50.849
We either do smaller items that are on our auction tables or we do the big auction items that are live auctions.

00:19:50.849 --> 00:19:52.193
But we go around.

00:19:52.193 --> 00:19:58.932
Also, we all talk to everybody about our sponsorships, which is $100 up to $5,000.

00:19:58.932 --> 00:20:02.943
And we've never had a $5,000 sponsorship until last year.

00:20:02.943 --> 00:20:07.215
Oh, really, and yeah, I had two last year and I have two this year so far, oh, wow.

00:20:07.405 --> 00:20:14.540
Somebody else told me today they thought they were going to do a $5,000, because, as you know, it's all tax deductible and it all goes to an awesome cause.

00:20:14.540 --> 00:20:18.009
So people are willing to pay it and we're willing to give it out.

00:20:19.112 --> 00:20:23.873
So let's talk about the sponsorship packages a little bit, break that down a little bit for me.

00:20:24.165 --> 00:20:26.576
So we have a silver sponsor and that's $100.

00:20:26.576 --> 00:20:29.707
You get one rider, they get a t-shirt and they have lunch that day.

00:20:29.707 --> 00:20:34.357
The 300 gives you three riders, t-shirts and lunch as well for all three.

00:20:34.357 --> 00:20:37.594
The platinum is $500, five riders.

00:20:37.594 --> 00:20:40.000
Then you get the diamond for $1,000.

00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:43.954
You get 10 riders and of course they get their t-shirts and their lunches as well.

00:20:43.954 --> 00:20:47.407
And of course we have the diamond plus, which is the $5,000.

00:20:47.407 --> 00:20:53.630
They get 20 bike riders and of course, the more you donate, the bigger your letter it is on the t-shirt.

00:20:53.691 --> 00:20:58.085
Oh yeah, you were saying that first year you raised $2,800?

00:20:58.125 --> 00:21:00.113
$2,800 and that was my first year.

00:21:00.113 --> 00:21:01.349
What are you up to now?

00:21:01.349 --> 00:21:08.085
Last year we had 716 registered riders and we raised $170,000.

00:21:08.085 --> 00:21:16.135
Amazing, amazing, oh my gosh, I know right, and we praise God for that because I can't say it enough it's this community.

00:21:16.135 --> 00:21:17.298
They give and they give.

00:21:17.925 --> 00:21:20.703
That's a big deal $170,000.

00:21:20.703 --> 00:21:20.825
It is.

00:21:21.707 --> 00:21:23.490
It is when you start thinking about it.

00:21:23.490 --> 00:21:29.189
I have, I would say, on an average, at least two women a month.

00:21:29.189 --> 00:21:34.229
Now there's months that'll go by that I don't have anybody and all I do is thank God for that.

00:21:34.229 --> 00:21:36.076
But then all of a sudden there's four.

00:21:36.076 --> 00:21:41.895
Women has contacted us and I can say this 100% Most of the time women who have breast cancer.

00:21:41.895 --> 00:21:43.520
They never contact us.

00:21:43.520 --> 00:21:54.092
It's always a friend who tells us about them, because the thing about these women are they don't ever want anybody to know that they're sad or they're disappointed.

00:21:54.092 --> 00:21:57.719
They fight so hard to protect their families.

00:21:57.719 --> 00:22:03.657
The only thing our survivors care about is making sure their family lives don't change.

00:22:03.657 --> 00:22:11.173
So that's where we step in and to make sure financially it doesn't have to change so much because that is a burden for a mother.

00:22:12.046 --> 00:22:14.453
We started out, like I said, it was $2,800.

00:22:14.453 --> 00:22:20.159
We gave it to one girl, then we did the $8,000 thing and then we just we thought we were going to do it once and be done.

00:22:20.159 --> 00:22:20.741
One and done.

00:22:20.741 --> 00:22:22.567
I'm like Lord yes, I can do that for you.

00:22:22.567 --> 00:22:24.652
I'm here to serve and here we sit.

00:22:24.652 --> 00:22:33.204
Years later we did have to skip a ride during COVID, but I have to tell you, even though we had to skip that year, our money still came in.

00:22:33.204 --> 00:22:36.416
We still raised $150,000 during COVID.

00:22:36.557 --> 00:22:37.420
There was no bike ride.

00:22:37.460 --> 00:22:39.567
No, bike ride at all, but the people did not care.

00:22:39.567 --> 00:22:45.991
That's amazing, they did not care, even people who had registered, because our registration stays open for a long time.

00:22:45.991 --> 00:22:48.501
The people who registered they were like.

00:22:48.501 --> 00:22:49.948
None of them asked for their money back.

00:22:49.948 --> 00:22:53.925
They were all there for the right reason and that's yeah, and that's what makes it so successful.

00:22:53.945 --> 00:22:55.451
Beautiful, yeah.

00:22:55.451 --> 00:22:56.998
Have people already started registering?

00:22:56.998 --> 00:22:58.743
Absolutely yes.

00:22:58.743 --> 00:23:01.411
I'm going to register as soon as we finish this podcast.

00:23:01.592 --> 00:23:02.433
And you can register.

00:23:02.433 --> 00:23:07.352
You can do your sponsorship online wwwRealHouseWiseTheTopsallIslandcom.

00:23:07.352 --> 00:23:10.397
You can also register for you to ride that day.

00:23:10.397 --> 00:23:13.422
It will ask you the size of your shirt and all that good stuff to say.

00:23:13.422 --> 00:23:15.250
You can make sure you pick your shirts up as well.

00:23:15.309 --> 00:23:16.375
Tell me about the shirts.

00:23:16.375 --> 00:23:17.839
Is there a design?

00:23:18.182 --> 00:23:23.768
There is a design and we've used this design throughout our entire time and all the girls are like, let's change the design.

00:23:23.768 --> 00:23:25.070
I'm like, yes, we can't.

00:23:25.070 --> 00:23:26.233
That's our logo.

00:23:26.233 --> 00:23:28.951
We can't change them Because what it is actually?

00:23:28.951 --> 00:23:32.163
There's six women on the front of us, Six or seven.

00:23:32.163 --> 00:23:38.503
There's seven of us, I think, on there and the middle, just like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

00:23:38.523 --> 00:23:41.471
We're in the little V, and what are you holding in your hand?

00:23:41.570 --> 00:23:51.198
We're holding a fish and a fishing pole and we have on our sneaks, very sneakers, oh my gosh, that's the cutest thing I love it.

00:23:51.198 --> 00:24:03.589
But of course now I have to say all my girls are just as pretty as they can be so, and all of them we all have on our jewelry and our earrings and all that, but we do have on our sneaks, very sneakers and our fishing rods in our hands.

00:24:03.770 --> 00:24:04.792
That's so cute.

00:24:04.792 --> 00:24:05.934
I can't wait to see it.

00:24:05.934 --> 00:24:08.146
So tell me about the riders.

00:24:08.146 --> 00:24:08.807
Where are they?

00:24:08.887 --> 00:24:09.730
all locals.

00:24:09.730 --> 00:24:18.181
Honestly, I would say most of them are from Surf City, but we do have a lot of people who vacation here just for this ride.

00:24:18.181 --> 00:24:20.390
They will call and say when is your next ride?

00:24:20.390 --> 00:24:23.384
Or even before we leave that day, have you set your date for next year?

00:24:23.384 --> 00:24:25.855
Because they come to vacation during this time.

00:24:26.037 --> 00:24:26.519
Oh gosh yeah.

00:24:26.578 --> 00:24:28.769
Okay, but we do have riders who come from Wilmington.

00:24:28.769 --> 00:24:30.718
I have some who come from Florida, believe it or not.

00:24:30.718 --> 00:24:39.209
Virginia we have a lot of Virginians who come, but I would have to say, mostly local from Hampstead, surf City, sneeze, ferry, holly Ridge.

00:24:39.209 --> 00:24:41.693
Most of us are local, absolutely yes.

00:24:41.693 --> 00:24:46.714
We also have a great group of friends who own bars and restaurants.

00:24:46.714 --> 00:24:51.088
We've had numerous of them contact us and said hey, we're going to do a pink cocktail.

00:24:51.088 --> 00:24:51.690
I'm like.

00:24:52.070 --> 00:24:52.732
I love that.

00:24:52.732 --> 00:24:56.170
If you go to Bochang, they have a specialty their drink is pink.

00:24:56.170 --> 00:24:57.958
They give it back to the Real Housewives.

00:24:57.958 --> 00:25:05.038
So does the Surf City line, the Crab Pot and Loatide, and if you look at their menus they're all on there and I have been.

00:25:05.038 --> 00:25:07.032
It mentions the Real Housewives.

00:25:07.032 --> 00:25:07.896
It does, and it's.

00:25:07.896 --> 00:25:09.845
They're the Real Housewives cocktails.

00:25:10.105 --> 00:25:10.646
I love that.

00:25:10.787 --> 00:25:14.034
And it says on there proceeds go to the Real Housewives.

00:25:14.034 --> 00:25:16.548
I was in there having dinner one night.

00:25:16.548 --> 00:25:18.256
My husband and I eat there quite often.

00:25:18.276 --> 00:25:18.919
Where which one?

00:25:18.959 --> 00:25:19.943
Loatide Okay.

00:25:19.943 --> 00:25:23.015
And I heard this girl say I'll have a Real Housewife.

00:25:23.015 --> 00:25:24.398
But what is a Real Housewife?

00:25:24.398 --> 00:25:28.215
And Tre and Kristen, the owner, said there, she is right there.

00:25:28.215 --> 00:25:28.898
Oh, that's funny.

00:25:28.898 --> 00:25:33.259
So they came up and talked to me a little bit about the Real Housewives and I told them exactly what we did.

00:25:33.259 --> 00:25:38.955
So I think they ended up ordering four or five more drinks just for the Real Housewives to give back it was good that you were there.

00:25:40.224 --> 00:25:49.832
But they're so good to me, they give me additional money after their sponsorships, and when I say sponsorships they're all at least a thousand dollar sponsorship.

00:25:49.832 --> 00:25:56.457
And so then throughout the year, as they want to distribute, they'll call me up and say hey, we got a check for your cocktails.

00:25:56.457 --> 00:25:57.748
Come back pick up a check.

00:25:57.748 --> 00:26:02.868
So they keep us going even when something's not going on when the ride's not happening.

00:26:02.888 --> 00:26:06.218
So I have so many businesses who will just send a check.

00:26:06.218 --> 00:26:11.347
Richard Stroop, one of them, saltwater Sweets sent me a nice big old check and said you know, that kind of thing.

00:26:11.347 --> 00:26:12.250
He also.

00:26:12.250 --> 00:26:13.938
He and I had a conversation last week.

00:26:13.938 --> 00:26:18.852
He is giving a 10% discount for anybody who's staying in his sweets that weekend.

00:26:18.852 --> 00:26:23.010
So he's giving them the discount for coming and supporting the Real Housewives.

00:26:23.010 --> 00:26:24.675
So I thought that was cool, yeah, so nice.

00:26:24.675 --> 00:26:25.468
Absolutely.

00:26:25.749 --> 00:26:34.521
I just did an interview with Richard Stroop and I told him I had a phone conversation with you and he's created a foundation that gives back to the community as well.

00:26:34.521 --> 00:26:35.384
That's what I mean.

00:26:35.384 --> 00:26:38.761
I just I love hearing about all these businesses that are doing this kind of stuff.

00:26:38.942 --> 00:26:43.016
There is some good nonprofits in this community and it is all about taking care of each other.

00:26:43.016 --> 00:26:46.338
All the businesses, like I said, they're always trying to find something great to give back.

00:26:46.338 --> 00:26:48.166
Sears Landing my friend Ray.

00:26:48.166 --> 00:26:49.289
I just love Ray Ray.

00:26:49.289 --> 00:26:51.074
We call him Ray Ray because we love him so dearly.

00:26:51.074 --> 00:27:00.951
He got Budweiser, who is a friend of mine, jane Jeffries, her family, owned Budweiser and he contacted them, said hey, is there anything you can donate to the Real Housewives?

00:27:00.951 --> 00:27:02.213
So she brought us a bike.

00:27:02.213 --> 00:27:05.468
It was a dilly dilly bike.

00:27:05.468 --> 00:27:06.009
What is a?

00:27:06.028 --> 00:27:06.932
dilly, dilly bike.

00:27:07.011 --> 00:27:10.890
It was really nothing but a bicycle with just dilly dilly written on it.

00:27:11.452 --> 00:27:18.386
So Ray got on there and he started adding things to it, putting stickers on it, the Real Housewives stuff Just made it so darn cute.

00:27:18.386 --> 00:27:23.912
That bicycle sold for five $1000.

00:27:23.912 --> 00:27:24.653
Oh my gosh.

00:27:24.653 --> 00:27:27.960
Then it came they were like donated back.

00:27:27.960 --> 00:27:31.051
They donated that bicycle three times.

00:27:31.051 --> 00:27:33.278
It brought in $15,000.

00:27:33.278 --> 00:27:34.984
Oh my gosh, how nice is that?

00:27:34.984 --> 00:27:39.540
Yeah, same thing happened when year we were at the trailer bar doing our auction.

00:27:39.540 --> 00:27:42.029
Again it went for $5,000.

00:27:42.029 --> 00:27:43.114
The guy said give it back.

00:27:43.114 --> 00:27:46.426
It happens all the time and then we get to redo it.

00:27:46.426 --> 00:27:49.675
So normally people say I'm back up at $5,000.

00:27:49.675 --> 00:27:50.959
We stopped there, let's go again.

00:27:50.959 --> 00:27:53.792
So it's always just the craziest stories.

00:27:53.792 --> 00:27:58.010
I have a jeweler here, tommy J, and he designed the Real Housewives bracelet.

00:27:58.010 --> 00:28:05.919
And so one of our board members, susan Billet she's man, I want that and I was like yeah, the girl, you can get this.

00:28:05.919 --> 00:28:06.943
This is all about us.

00:28:07.445 --> 00:28:09.012
And so let me see that thing, I know.

00:28:09.294 --> 00:28:11.441
She started bidding on this bracelet.

00:28:11.441 --> 00:28:12.625
Oh, I love it.

00:28:12.625 --> 00:28:14.530
That's a great design, isn't it though?

00:28:14.530 --> 00:28:18.540
Yeah, yeah, so, anyway, she started bidding on this bracelet.

00:28:18.540 --> 00:28:23.511
The next thing we know, some guys like outbidding her, like crazy, and we were like oh, it was just a one of a kind.

00:28:23.511 --> 00:28:26.780
No, it wasn't a one of a kind, but it was one that was there that day.

00:28:26.990 --> 00:28:27.271
Okay.

00:28:27.373 --> 00:28:29.726
But Susan was willing to pay more, just to give back to the Real.

00:28:29.746 --> 00:28:30.147
Housewives.

00:28:30.388 --> 00:28:35.407
Our friend and it was Andy Thornton who was doing this, who is a big donor as well.

00:28:35.407 --> 00:28:37.554
He's like outbidding, outbidding.

00:28:37.554 --> 00:28:37.835
I think.

00:28:37.835 --> 00:28:39.740
He got this bracelet up to $700.

00:28:39.740 --> 00:28:41.270
And everybody finally walked away.

00:28:41.270 --> 00:28:44.800
He got this bracelet and walked up to Susan Billet, put it on her arm.

00:28:44.941 --> 00:28:46.272
That is the sweetest thing, right?

00:28:46.272 --> 00:28:51.513
Oh, my gosh, I know I'm telling you I'm blown away by the generosity that I'm hearing about.

00:28:52.115 --> 00:29:01.961
I could go on for days about the generosity of people in this community and the love that they share and the things they just do for each other that you would not have normally happen in a town.

00:29:01.961 --> 00:29:07.246
It's kind of I'm scared about all the growth because I want to keep it so personal, because it's been so good.

00:29:07.246 --> 00:29:11.981
But then I see the growth and I see those two women who came up to me today who want to sponsor.

00:29:11.981 --> 00:29:13.153
So I keep thinking you know what?

00:29:13.153 --> 00:29:15.239
Maybe God brought them here to us as well.

00:29:15.569 --> 00:29:20.834
I think we have a core group of people who are long timers and they've been here and they're doing these wonderful things.

00:29:20.834 --> 00:29:22.679
The new people are coming in and looking.

00:29:22.679 --> 00:29:26.298
They're new, they're trying to figure out the culture here.

00:29:26.298 --> 00:29:27.761
They're trying to open businesses.

00:29:27.970 --> 00:29:28.392
Absolutely.

00:29:28.412 --> 00:29:34.317
And they're looking to the long timers for guidance and I think you're setting example and I think they're following that example.

00:29:34.458 --> 00:29:36.372
And I think they also want to get involved.

00:29:36.372 --> 00:29:42.657
I think they probably left big cities and they just didn't get involved because they didn't have that community feeling.

00:29:42.657 --> 00:29:46.576
And I think when you're in surf city it is nothing but the feeling of great community.

00:29:46.897 --> 00:29:52.396
I think the small town vibe is still very much here and alive, and I think that's what draws people here.

00:29:52.557 --> 00:29:52.939
I agree.

00:29:53.138 --> 00:29:54.811
I hope it doesn't change I don't think it will.

00:29:54.832 --> 00:29:55.834
I hope it never changes.

00:29:55.834 --> 00:29:56.717
I'm going to see to it.

00:29:57.479 --> 00:30:02.759
In our phone conversation you were mentioning about a lawyer that really helped you out.

00:30:02.759 --> 00:30:04.531
I want the listeners to hear Can you tell me more?

00:30:04.692 --> 00:30:08.261
Absolutely so, again, strong in my faith.

00:30:08.261 --> 00:30:12.461
And I was sitting around one day and I was like, Lord, I know what you're asking me to do.

00:30:12.461 --> 00:30:16.900
I don't know how to do it and I financially certainly can't afford to do this.

00:30:16.900 --> 00:30:19.275
So how do I become a nonprofit?

00:30:19.275 --> 00:30:24.775
I mean, give me a sign, because it's expensive, it's very time-consuming to become a 501C3.

00:30:24.775 --> 00:30:29.834
And I was sitting there praying one day and I was asked Lord, how do you expect me to do this?

00:30:29.834 --> 00:30:31.499
I know there's a way, but how do I do it?

00:30:31.819 --> 00:30:33.996
Lo and behold, a couple of days later my phone rang.

00:30:33.996 --> 00:30:35.181
It was Dan Rizzo.

00:30:35.181 --> 00:30:38.051
Dan was an attorney here in Surf City.

00:30:38.051 --> 00:30:40.057
He is now retired, but he called me.

00:30:40.057 --> 00:30:43.776
He said, Annette, hey, I understand what you're trying to do in this community.

00:30:43.776 --> 00:30:45.019
Is there something I can help you with?

00:30:45.019 --> 00:30:47.455
And I said, Dan, honestly, I don't know what to do.

00:30:47.455 --> 00:30:49.580
I don't know how to get my 501C3.

00:30:49.580 --> 00:30:51.576
I don't know how to do any of this.

00:30:51.576 --> 00:30:53.222
And he said I'll tell you what I'll do.

00:30:53.222 --> 00:30:59.861
I will do your legalities free for the lifetime of the of the real housewives, as long as you continue your work.

00:30:59.861 --> 00:31:08.356
Then I became very close friends and he was just a super guy and then he sold his practice to a girl named Kathy Blackburn, and I adore Kathy.

00:31:08.356 --> 00:31:12.215
She sits on the chamber with us, and so now Kathy's always.

00:31:12.215 --> 00:31:13.883
Whatever you need, let me know.

00:31:14.144 --> 00:31:16.574
I will do everything, the same as Dan always did.

00:31:16.614 --> 00:31:16.996
How about that?

00:31:16.996 --> 00:31:17.597
How about that?

00:31:17.940 --> 00:31:21.634
And I have one gift this year that was donated by Kathy Blackburn.

00:31:21.634 --> 00:31:24.261
It is a three-seater.

00:31:24.261 --> 00:31:27.311
It looks like a golf cart, except for you have to pedal it.

00:31:27.311 --> 00:31:29.396
It is the cutest thing I know.

00:31:29.396 --> 00:31:31.261
It's going to bring a ton of money to Kathy.

00:31:31.261 --> 00:31:36.653
Literally bought two of them when she bought them, because she bought one for her family and one for the real housewives.

00:31:36.753 --> 00:31:39.461
Is she going to be riding that in the bike?

00:31:39.461 --> 00:31:44.272
I think that would be a little hard and that would be very hard, unless you unless the other people are peddling as hard as you are.

00:31:44.333 --> 00:31:45.634
Yeah, a good, strong team.

00:31:45.634 --> 00:31:53.505
Yeah, first place winners right, we had a Rocky from 50 South donated an e-bike last year.

00:31:53.505 --> 00:31:55.290
Which e-bikes are allowed to ride in this?

00:31:55.310 --> 00:31:55.833
ride.

00:31:55.833 --> 00:31:57.479
Yes, okay, that's what I want.

00:31:57.479 --> 00:31:59.023
Yes, you sure do.

00:31:59.023 --> 00:32:01.555
I'll make it, then I'll be able to complete it.

00:32:01.615 --> 00:32:03.968
It's a little bit easier, so you do allow the e-bikes.

00:32:03.968 --> 00:32:06.876
We just started allowing the e-bikes because everybody's got it.

00:32:06.876 --> 00:32:10.898
It's the newest, latest, greatest right, okay, for all, probably 10 years.

00:32:10.898 --> 00:32:13.026
We were like no, that's cheating.

00:32:13.026 --> 00:32:16.714
Now, the older I get, it's okay.

00:32:16.734 --> 00:32:17.877
Maybe it's not cheating anymore.

00:32:19.059 --> 00:32:20.202
I think it comes with age.

00:32:20.202 --> 00:32:23.438
It's a true thing.

00:32:24.181 --> 00:32:24.781
That's funny.

00:32:24.781 --> 00:32:28.373
Okay, there's somebody, there's a vendor around here that rents those e-bikes.

00:32:28.373 --> 00:32:30.799
Yes, there is, I'm going to get that ordered in early.

00:32:30.940 --> 00:32:33.076
It's either 50 South either one of them.

00:32:33.096 --> 00:32:33.258
Oh, okay.

00:32:33.278 --> 00:32:38.255
Actually, I think it would be 50 South Rocky, Rocky Godwin, rocky Godwin 50 South.

00:32:38.275 --> 00:32:39.396
His wife is a survivor.

00:32:39.396 --> 00:32:40.038
Oh really.

00:32:40.259 --> 00:32:45.467
Lisa, a fabulous retired teacher as of this year, but yeah, she's done wonderful things to.

00:32:45.607 --> 00:32:46.972
If they are not already.

00:32:47.134 --> 00:32:50.262
You better get your name on the list.

00:32:50.262 --> 00:32:54.355
I won't win on October 7th I have to tell you, everybody starts reserving their bikes.

00:32:54.355 --> 00:32:59.503
Herrings, as a matter of fact, and Rocky same, have never charged anybody to ride those bikes.

00:32:59.503 --> 00:33:00.667
You're kidding me?

00:33:00.667 --> 00:33:02.874
No, they're like just give the money to the real housewives.

00:33:02.874 --> 00:33:06.832
Yeah, Cause Steve's wife and Rocky's wife are both survivors.

00:33:06.832 --> 00:33:07.493
You're kidding?

00:33:07.574 --> 00:33:08.876
No, all right no.

00:33:09.198 --> 00:33:13.134
It's just crazy how all of this all goes hand in hand.

00:33:13.296 --> 00:33:15.020
It's incredible it really is incredible.

00:33:15.020 --> 00:33:19.096
The live entertainment that day at JM.

00:33:19.096 --> 00:33:20.481
Yes, do you know who that's going to be?

00:33:20.481 --> 00:33:21.826
It is my husband's band oh.

00:33:21.826 --> 00:33:22.874
Fried on the boat.

00:33:22.874 --> 00:33:24.179
Fried on the boat.

00:33:24.179 --> 00:33:24.902
Fried on the boat.

00:33:25.063 --> 00:33:27.401
And they are one of the I would have to say it.

00:33:27.401 --> 00:33:29.296
A lot of the locals follow them.

00:33:29.296 --> 00:33:30.474
They are fantastic.

00:33:30.474 --> 00:33:38.376
They've been playing, and not necessarily altogether, but my husband has been playing for over 30 years on the Island Darryl and his group.

00:33:38.376 --> 00:33:39.299
They're rock stars.

00:33:39.430 --> 00:33:40.317
Fright on the boat.

00:33:40.891 --> 00:33:42.797
FRYD, baby Fright, on the boat.

00:33:42.797 --> 00:33:47.732
I can't wait to hear that, but I have to say they have been so good, Like last.

00:33:47.732 --> 00:33:54.983
Every other year they have played at every registration for free and they even play the day of the bike ride.

00:33:54.983 --> 00:33:56.634
They always that's their donation.

00:33:56.935 --> 00:33:57.518
Very cool.

00:33:57.597 --> 00:33:59.333
Yep, and I have another guy.

00:33:59.333 --> 00:34:00.518
His name is Timmy Biggs.

00:34:00.518 --> 00:34:12.237
He's an artist as well and he plays the guitar and sings and he gets all the band members to donate at least $1,000 so they can put their name on the T-shirt under $1,000.

00:34:12.237 --> 00:34:14.536
Yeah, and he's not gonna take no friends or either.

00:34:15.889 --> 00:34:19.079
Wow, you've got a good support team behind you on this.

00:34:19.079 --> 00:34:20.496
I have a great support team.

00:34:20.829 --> 00:34:21.773
There's no doubt about it.

00:34:21.773 --> 00:34:28.291
No doubt about it, and my doctor I work for a doctor on said he's do what you need to do that's top sold dental Yep and.

00:34:28.291 --> 00:34:29.876
I'm the ambassador of top sold dental.

00:34:30.057 --> 00:34:30.297
Nice.

00:34:30.869 --> 00:34:34.817
And so my job literally my real job is to go back and give back to the community.

00:34:35.489 --> 00:34:37.255
Steve through top sold dental.

00:34:38.349 --> 00:34:39.313
He pays me my salaries.

00:34:39.313 --> 00:34:42.639
He's just that he said you've done it all these years without ever getting paid.

00:34:42.639 --> 00:34:45.630
I'm gonna pay you to do this because he works and he's.

00:34:45.630 --> 00:34:48.699
I can pay you to do this for me, that's so cool, so cool.

00:34:48.699 --> 00:34:49.952
He's gosh.

00:34:49.952 --> 00:34:52.139
I'm so blessed to work with top sold dental.

00:34:52.139 --> 00:34:53.353
They are phenomenal.

00:34:53.614 --> 00:34:54.398
My family goes there.

00:34:54.398 --> 00:35:03.416
Oh good, yay, yeah, all right, I've had a blast talking to you.

00:35:03.416 --> 00:35:09.110
You are just, you're such a pleasure to speak with, and I love how easy it is to talk to you.

00:35:09.250 --> 00:35:18.061
For me it's so easy to talk about because I love doing all of this, but I have to say I have been blessed beyond through all of this.

00:35:18.061 --> 00:35:27.034
There's days that it's so hectic and it's so tiring and it's so long, but then you look back and you get those phone calls from those women and you get these cards in the mail that are just like.

00:35:27.034 --> 00:35:28.795
You don't even know what you did for my family.

00:35:29.349 --> 00:35:36.677
When you do hear back from the women, you're touching them in such an amazing way, but they're touching your heart as well.

00:35:36.677 --> 00:35:40.739
It's gotta feel really good when you know that you're helping someone that needs this kind of help.

00:35:41.391 --> 00:35:42.898
It does your heart so good.

00:35:42.898 --> 00:35:58.873
And then, every time you see them and there's women, trust me, there's hundreds of women I haven't even laid my eyes on, but there's so many who will come up and introduce themselves and say you help me, you help my family, and you will never know what it meant to me.

00:35:58.873 --> 00:36:01.530
And, yeah, it's just like I said it is.

00:36:01.530 --> 00:36:15.798
I don't know if it's more of a blessing to them or more of a blessing to us, because, yeah, when you see everything come together and it all works out and you're doing what God wanted us to do, and that is simply to take care of each other, and that's what we do.

00:36:16.090 --> 00:36:16.791
I love it.

00:36:16.791 --> 00:36:18.257
Thank you so much.

00:36:18.257 --> 00:36:18.719
Thank you.

00:36:18.719 --> 00:36:21.097
I always like to finish up with my final thoughts.

00:36:21.097 --> 00:36:24.099
So is there something that you want to leave the listeners with?

00:36:24.099 --> 00:36:30.894
That's just the one thing you want them to know about the real housewives of Topswell Island, or just you and net?

00:36:31.056 --> 00:36:38.536
Ernie, I just like for you to know that we value what you give to us and we don't just throw your money away.

00:36:38.536 --> 00:36:42.974
We literally take care of every woman and every family that asks for our help.

00:36:42.974 --> 00:36:45.197
We do our background checks on all of them.

00:36:45.197 --> 00:36:50.778
I contact every doctor to confirm that this patient really is being diagnosed with breast cancer.

00:36:50.778 --> 00:36:53.579
We don't throw your money around lightly.

00:36:53.579 --> 00:36:56.018
We respect your money and we know you work hard for it.

00:36:56.018 --> 00:37:01.119
Our team is working so hard to make sure that we take care of everything that you give us.

00:37:01.530 --> 00:37:14.958
These families are so thankful and so blessed and you may not know them, but they know about you because I talk about our community so much to our survivors and their families, even to our in memory of.

00:37:14.958 --> 00:37:19.655
We have lost so many women to breast cancer, but their families always.

00:37:19.655 --> 00:37:20.217
It's just.

00:37:20.217 --> 00:37:31.219
I have gotten recently two messages from two husbands that said I lost my wife but I wanted you to know how much it meant to us.

00:37:31.219 --> 00:37:39.918
And I think that's the thing that baffles me, because you don't have many men reach out to an organization that help them.

00:37:39.918 --> 00:37:54.016
Sometimes they're like it goes in one ear or out the other because they're so wrapped up and losing their wife and their spouse and everything, but they always make a point to let me know what's going on and how much they really appreciated us.

00:37:54.570 --> 00:37:59.577
So I think the one thing I would leave here with all of our viewers are please continue to give.

00:37:59.577 --> 00:38:00.994
Cancer does not stop.

00:38:00.994 --> 00:38:02.219
We're not gonna stop.

00:38:02.219 --> 00:38:09.956
We're gonna use your money the way it needs to be used respectfully, and take care of our local people right here in Surf City Perfect.
