Hello everyone and welcome to Topsail Insider.

00:02:49.254 --> 00:02:51.836
My name is Krista and I am your host.

00:02:51.836 --> 00:02:56.056
Today I have the pleasure of speaking with Garrett and Brandy Shaver.

00:02:56.056 --> 00:02:58.503
They are the owners of Salt Marsh Market.

00:02:58.503 --> 00:03:06.647
Salt Marsh Market is located in the popular Triton Village Shopping Center and that's on Charlie Medlin Drive in Surf City, north Carolina.

00:03:06.647 --> 00:03:09.233
Garrett and Brandy, thank you so much for joining me today.

00:03:09.400 --> 00:03:11.201
Thank you for having us, thank you for having us.

00:03:11.562 --> 00:03:14.774
You offer a lot at your store.

00:03:14.774 --> 00:03:28.133
You've filled it with such an amazing array of products, so we're going to talk about all of those, but for now, for anyone who doesn't know the Salt Marsh Market, give me just an overview of what your store is about and tell me what makes it different from all the others.

00:03:28.860 --> 00:03:32.951
Well, first and foremost, it is a lot crammed into 1,200 square feet.

00:03:32.951 --> 00:03:36.009
That's a common theme with newcomers to the store.

00:03:36.009 --> 00:03:37.564
Wow, it's a lot to look at.

00:03:37.564 --> 00:03:42.110
It is, but just take your time and work your way around and you'll find something that you're looking for.

00:03:42.110 --> 00:03:44.328
We are a market concept.

00:03:44.328 --> 00:03:52.532
We do have take-and-bake foods prepared meals, wraps you can eat on site, a lot of snack stuff.

00:03:52.532 --> 00:04:01.281
We have a big selection of sauces and rubs, chips, things of that nature, charcuterie type things, meat and cheese trays.

00:04:01.281 --> 00:04:13.907
We also have an eight-person bar that you can sit and have a glass of wine or a draft beer, or even open a bottle of wine if you'd like, and a good large size selection of to-go beer and wine.

00:04:14.206 --> 00:04:16.072
The bar was full, by the way, when I walked in.

00:04:16.072 --> 00:04:20.137
I thought I was going to belly up to the bar and we were going to sit there and chat while.

00:04:20.177 --> 00:04:20.940
I typed away.

00:04:20.940 --> 00:04:23.047
We had planned to do that, but we could not.

00:04:23.266 --> 00:04:24.209
No, it was packed.

00:04:24.209 --> 00:04:24.992
I loved seeing it.

00:04:25.259 --> 00:04:31.290
Some of the other stuff, a lot of local vendors, whether it be local right there in Surf City or North Carolina.

00:04:31.290 --> 00:04:33.574
In general, apparel is really big for us.

00:04:34.160 --> 00:04:38.127
It's not a chain grocery store, it's independently owned.

00:04:38.127 --> 00:04:38.923
Can you tell me a little bit?

00:04:38.942 --> 00:04:39.384
about that?

00:04:39.384 --> 00:04:40.187
Absolutely.

00:04:40.187 --> 00:04:42.487
We definitely are family owned and operated.

00:04:42.487 --> 00:04:43.750
We do have employees.

00:04:43.750 --> 00:04:45.742
We have six right now.

00:04:45.742 --> 00:04:47.608
My first employee was my mother and my son.

00:04:47.608 --> 00:04:50.007
I did end up firing my mother what?

00:04:50.007 --> 00:04:52.579
It was kind of a joke, or it started out as a joke.

00:04:52.579 --> 00:04:59.389
She loved working with us but she also wanted to move back to Massachusetts and so I fired her because she would not leave otherwise.

00:04:59.389 --> 00:05:04.526
She felt really she wanted to stay and help with the store, but she's back now in Hampstead, so really she wanted to stay and help with the store.

00:05:04.547 --> 00:05:05.208
But she's back now in Hampstead.

00:05:05.208 --> 00:05:05.629
So there is that.

00:05:05.629 --> 00:05:05.848
Oh, she is.

00:05:05.848 --> 00:05:10.634
And then my son also was one of our first employees and he decided working for his parents was not what he wanted to do either.

00:05:10.634 --> 00:05:20.423
Do not blame him, not one bit, but we needed them a lot when we first opened and there was so much going on we were just very busy, so it was great having them there.

00:05:20.423 --> 00:05:22.726
Garrett and I obviously work together a lot.

00:05:22.987 --> 00:05:25.711
Yeah, sometimes I wonder how we've been in wife team here.

00:05:26.331 --> 00:05:29.074
It has its challenges, but it's very rewarding.

00:05:29.535 --> 00:05:30.336
We work well together.

00:05:30.336 --> 00:05:40.002
We definitely have a good balance of what he does and what I do, and they're very different at the store, so it kind of gives us a little separation from each other because we both are doing very different things.

00:05:40.242 --> 00:05:42.887
Yeah, garrett, you handle beer and wine primarily.

00:05:43.346 --> 00:05:43.528
Yes.

00:05:43.648 --> 00:05:44.689
And the food too, or no?

00:05:44.949 --> 00:05:52.423
Some of the food, but most of the food items, the specialty items, that's Brandy's, that's Brandy's, yeah Right, and she's really good at it.

00:05:52.524 --> 00:05:53.507
So Well, thank you.

00:05:53.528 --> 00:05:55.807
Garrett, let's talk about your personal history.

00:05:55.807 --> 00:06:00.906
You did mention that your mother was from Massachusetts, so I'm assuming you're originally from Mass.

00:06:00.906 --> 00:06:03.853
I am Okay, and what brought you here to North Carolina?

00:06:03.952 --> 00:06:06.096
originally it was South Carolina.

00:06:06.096 --> 00:06:10.992
I've been here for probably 17 years, 20 years a while.

00:06:10.992 --> 00:06:15.209
I came to Wilmington, probably in 2008.

00:06:15.209 --> 00:06:19.687
And I came here for a boy, fell in love with Wilmington and stayed.

00:06:19.687 --> 00:06:20.810
That's not the boy.

00:06:20.870 --> 00:06:23.035
No, no, no, different boy Different boy, boy.

00:06:24.180 --> 00:06:25.644
Well, that's my story, though.

00:06:27.509 --> 00:06:29.012
It's all good, we all have a story.

00:06:29.012 --> 00:06:35.199
Okay, you two are really young and we're not even thinking about retirement at this stage, are we?

00:06:35.220 --> 00:06:36.341
No, I was thinking about next week.

00:06:36.341 --> 00:06:39.041
I like to work.

00:06:39.041 --> 00:06:41.004
I'm kidding, I need to work, I need something to do.

00:06:41.004 --> 00:06:41.824
Yeah, for sure.

00:06:42.244 --> 00:06:43.884
And Garrett, where are you from originally?

00:06:44.165 --> 00:06:45.586
Originally from Southport.

00:06:46.146 --> 00:06:47.267
Oh, that's such a great area.

00:06:47.627 --> 00:06:50.769
Love Southport A little different than when I grew up there, but it's still very nice.

00:06:50.769 --> 00:06:54.913
Still have parents on Caswell Beach and we visit them quite often.

00:06:54.913 --> 00:06:58.954
Moved to Wilmington in 96.

00:06:58.954 --> 00:07:02.117
Went to UNCW oh nice, and I stayed.

00:07:02.416 --> 00:07:03.437
Can I ask what you studied?

00:07:03.437 --> 00:07:07.002
Marketing, marketing, business.

00:07:07.002 --> 00:07:12.132
Yes, now you guys don't live here in the Topsail area, you're living in Wilmington, is that right, correct?

00:07:12.132 --> 00:07:15.872
What made you decide to open your store here in the Topsail?

00:07:15.973 --> 00:07:16.233
area.

00:07:16.233 --> 00:07:20.867
Well, we never had intentions of having a store in Topsail before we had one in Wilmington.

00:07:20.867 --> 00:07:26.386
However, we saw the location one day, had a letter of intent the next day.

00:07:26.386 --> 00:07:28.576
Oh wow, we knew that location was perfect for what we were doing.

00:07:28.576 --> 00:07:33.658
So of course we didn't pass that up and we have yet to find a location that we would like to do.

00:07:33.658 --> 00:07:35.925
A second location in Are you planning on doing?

00:07:35.985 --> 00:07:36.807
a second location?

00:07:36.807 --> 00:07:37.870
Absolutely, it's always been the idea.

00:07:38.279 --> 00:07:42.651
That's great, but location, location, location, and we just haven't found what we're looking for.

00:07:42.651 --> 00:07:48.821
Would you put it?

00:07:48.821 --> 00:07:49.281
In Wilmington Possibly?

00:07:49.281 --> 00:07:49.684
It really depends.

00:07:49.684 --> 00:07:57.250
I think what we're looking for is we want something with outside seating area, something that maybe not on a strip mall like we are now, just something different, and those are hard to come by, and there's a lot of people looking for the same thing as well.

00:07:57.660 --> 00:08:04.485
What we do is very unique and the location has to be unique or pretty dialed in.

00:08:04.485 --> 00:08:08.206
It takes a certain spot for us to be successful.

00:08:08.206 --> 00:08:08.788
We feel like.

00:08:09.187 --> 00:08:12.670
You mentioned that you wouldn't choose to be in another strip mall area.

00:08:12.670 --> 00:08:14.971
There's a lot of foot traffic where you are currently.

00:08:14.971 --> 00:08:17.913
Are you looking for like a standalone for your second location?

00:08:18.113 --> 00:08:19.535
Ideally it would be standalone.

00:08:19.535 --> 00:08:20.755
That's hard to come by.

00:08:20.875 --> 00:08:22.817
Yeah, y'all need something bigger.

00:08:22.956 --> 00:08:23.877
Yes, definitely bigger.

00:08:24.319 --> 00:08:28.468
Yeah, I want to buy more things, kind of like the new place Wilmy Woody in their truck.

00:08:28.507 --> 00:08:29.911
Oh, yes, yes.

00:08:30.279 --> 00:08:34.202
That building they have, that they're rehabbing, is even I think it's even smaller.

00:08:34.283 --> 00:08:36.024
It is small but it's cute and that's like that.

00:08:36.085 --> 00:08:42.109
We look, we ride by it every day and tiny, but they're putting that nice deck around it.

00:08:42.408 --> 00:08:48.754
I'm sure they're going to make a lot out of the backyard at that right, I think they're utilizing every square inch of that property.

00:08:48.754 --> 00:08:51.456
I haven't seen any plans or anything, but I did just read that article.

00:08:51.456 --> 00:08:52.336
It's pretty exciting.

00:08:52.336 --> 00:08:55.625
Have you had their pizza?

00:08:55.645 --> 00:09:01.162
Oh yeah, it's a busy night when we have them.

00:09:01.162 --> 00:09:04.365
They're at Salted Turtle a lot, so when they're there it's usually a pretty busy evening for us.

00:09:04.365 --> 00:09:05.307
In general, great pizza Awesome.

00:09:05.326 --> 00:09:06.208
How did you two meet?

00:09:06.208 --> 00:09:07.610
Wait, wait, brandy.

00:09:07.610 --> 00:09:11.034
I just want to say that Garrett told me it was love at first sight.

00:09:11.034 --> 00:09:14.903
I'm just kidding, I like it.

00:09:14.964 --> 00:09:15.524
I like it.

00:09:15.524 --> 00:09:17.969
It was not love at first sight.

00:09:18.469 --> 00:09:21.033
She picked up on that very quickly in your notes.

00:09:21.354 --> 00:09:21.855
I knew she would.

00:09:21.855 --> 00:09:24.023
I put it in there just for her.

00:09:24.023 --> 00:09:25.788
I was just asking, like trying to get some information about you.

00:09:25.788 --> 00:09:27.626
And I was like, was it love at first sight?

00:09:27.626 --> 00:09:32.552
And he just looked at me like if you ask her that, she's going to think I put you up to that.

00:09:33.961 --> 00:09:38.259
Well, the story is, I definitely dated him a lot longer than he dated me, but that's okay.

00:09:38.259 --> 00:09:41.629
I knew what I wanted and I was not going to give up, and so and here we are.

00:09:41.629 --> 00:09:42.908
That's right.

00:09:43.149 --> 00:09:43.850
It all worked out.

00:09:43.990 --> 00:09:45.010
How long have y'all been together?

00:09:45.010 --> 00:09:47.471
We met back in 2010.

00:09:47.471 --> 00:09:49.553
We were engaged since 2015.

00:09:49.553 --> 00:09:52.774
We just recently got married in 2023.

00:09:52.774 --> 00:09:54.677
Yeah, oh, wow, congratulations.

00:09:54.716 --> 00:10:09.736
Thank you, yeah, but we've been together for quite some time and we finally decided to make it official, all right, so let's talk about what you did prior to Saltmarsh Market, because, garrett, you handle the beer and wine primarily, but you have a lot of experience in beer and wine, right?

00:10:09.996 --> 00:10:24.254
Yes, tell me a little bit about that I worked in beer distribution for almost 17 years prior to this, wore a lot of hats, did a lot of different things on-premise, off-premise sales, craft brand managing and a lot of that translates to what I do now.

00:10:25.381 --> 00:10:26.125
And what about you?

00:10:26.125 --> 00:10:28.648
I was in the medical field for quite some time.

00:10:28.648 --> 00:10:39.730
I ended up running a small medical clinic before opening the store, which gave me a really good understanding of what it takes to run a small business, and I think that was really helpful for us opening our business as well.

00:10:39.730 --> 00:10:42.168
I do all the QuickBooks and that part of it.

00:10:42.419 --> 00:10:47.745
I think it's interesting what we both kind of our takeaways from our previous careers.

00:10:47.745 --> 00:10:52.149
Like some of the things that like merchandising, branding and marketing.

00:10:52.149 --> 00:10:57.897
The things that I apply now were not the things that I thought would translate like they do.

00:10:58.581 --> 00:11:13.768
It sounds like, from your beer and wine experience and also your marketing degree, that you're coming to the table with a lot of knowledge and and you're coming to the table with with the back end knowledge, but it's different knowledge, but you're selling a whole different realm of stuff.

00:11:13.768 --> 00:11:16.962
I would imagine this is more fun, a lot more fun.

00:11:17.524 --> 00:11:29.052
I don't do any personal shopping anymore, because all I do is buy things for the store, yeah, and then I'm all shopped out and you get a little retail therapy that helps the business and doesn't hurt your wallet Absolutely.

00:11:29.052 --> 00:11:29.594
I'm a big fan.

00:11:29.594 --> 00:11:30.534
It's just as much fun.

00:11:31.160 --> 00:11:32.306
It satisfies that urge.

00:11:32.900 --> 00:11:38.552
What was it that inspired you to take the leap and open up your own store?

00:11:39.220 --> 00:11:46.802
So the big turning point, I think, would have been when my mother passed away very suddenly in November of 2020.

00:11:46.802 --> 00:11:49.385
That was very unexpected.

00:11:49.385 --> 00:11:54.293
This was already in the works and but we were still hesitant, we had not committed.

00:11:55.398 --> 00:11:57.394
But you were already thinking about opening the store.

00:11:57.495 --> 00:12:05.085
We were planning and working on it, but we hadn't reached the point of no return and we both looked at each other and thought what are we waiting on?

00:12:05.085 --> 00:12:07.720
You know, tomorrow's not guaranteed.

00:12:07.720 --> 00:12:09.504
Like we're going to do it, let's do it.

00:12:10.147 --> 00:12:15.820
Yeah, so you guys are both first-time business owners with Salt Marsh Market A lot of first-time business owners.

00:12:15.820 --> 00:12:17.024
We don't know what we're doing.

00:12:25.115 --> 00:12:25.596
We flounder a little bit.

00:12:25.596 --> 00:12:27.682
What hurdles did you face when you were opening up, or deciding to open up, saltmarsh Market?

00:12:27.682 --> 00:12:31.535
The biggest hurdle, and was right in the beginning, was the initial commitment to move on from careers and take the leap.

00:12:31.735 --> 00:12:34.863
Quit our jobs without another job in mind.

00:12:34.863 --> 00:12:35.104
Yes.

00:12:35.144 --> 00:12:35.985
It is frightening.

00:12:36.046 --> 00:12:38.258
Yeah, absolutely, and for both of us to do that.

00:12:38.258 --> 00:12:39.763
That was the biggest.

00:12:40.304 --> 00:12:40.605
I think.

00:12:40.605 --> 00:12:44.105
If you remember, though, it was never my intention to come on full time at the store.

00:12:44.105 --> 00:12:52.706
I wanted a career change and I wanted to leave where I was, so it was a good time for me to do it, to help him open the store and then find something else for me to do.

00:12:52.706 --> 00:12:55.120
I've been trying to leave ever since, but he won't let me.

00:12:55.120 --> 00:13:01.894
No, no, me, no.

00:13:01.894 --> 00:13:02.378
There's no way he could.

00:13:02.378 --> 00:13:02.879
She's not going anywhere.

00:13:02.879 --> 00:13:03.442
It's not a one person job.

00:13:03.442 --> 00:13:17.378
It really does take the both of us, and even that like I could never do what he does, and I could never even try to do what he does in beer and wine, you know, dealing with all of the vendors, and he already knows everybody in that industry, so that was a really easy thing for us to get into because of his background.

00:13:17.577 --> 00:13:18.340
What was the spark?

00:13:18.340 --> 00:13:22.469
What inspired you to say I think we need to open a grocery?

00:13:22.469 --> 00:13:27.865
We never said that, actually, how did it turn into Saltmarsh Market?

00:13:28.414 --> 00:13:49.826
It started out as beer and wine, with his background, and just where we were in the area north end of Wilmington, we were trying to look at something beer, wine bottle shop-ish, and then COVID happened, and then, of course, those places were being closed, and so then Garrett got the idea of reaching out to the Veggie Wagon that were also long-term customers of his, through the beer and wine you mentioned, the Veggie.

00:13:49.846 --> 00:13:51.136
Wagon in our pre-interview.

00:13:51.136 --> 00:13:57.360
But for the listeners who may not know what they are, tell me what they do and how that helped you go in the direction that you went.

00:13:57.640 --> 00:14:07.484
So they started out in Carolina Beach with a shop much like ours now and making all their food in the back in their kitchen, and it quickly grew into another store.

00:14:07.484 --> 00:14:15.765
So they have two stores now and a standalone production kitchen that makes our food their food and food for other stores as well.

00:14:16.154 --> 00:14:21.121
We would not be able to do what we do without the veggie wagon, simply saying that we have 1,200 square feet.

00:14:21.121 --> 00:14:22.004
You've been in the store.

00:14:22.004 --> 00:14:23.993
The space is very limited.

00:14:23.993 --> 00:14:41.541
Our backroom is even smaller, and so having that relationship with them where they can get us the fresh food sandwiches and all of our wraps, all of our to-go food it's all done by them, so that really allows us to be able to be in the footprint that we are and also be able to offer those offerings be able to be in the footprint that we are and also be able to offer those offerings.

00:14:41.561 --> 00:14:42.142
You mentioned COVID.

00:14:42.142 --> 00:14:43.263
Did you open after COVID?

00:14:43.482 --> 00:14:47.826
We did, but we signed the lease in January of 21.

00:14:47.826 --> 00:14:49.707
So right on the heels.

00:14:50.068 --> 00:14:51.549
We opened a business during COVID.

00:14:52.850 --> 00:14:54.272
Or we had grand plans to.

00:14:54.272 --> 00:14:55.535
We tried to.

00:14:55.535 --> 00:14:59.166
Yes, it did take us a year, almost exact to the day, to get open.

00:14:59.796 --> 00:15:05.767
We have a walk-up window, though that walk-up window is only there because it was COVID time when we were trying to do the build-out.

00:15:06.075 --> 00:15:07.158
Are you still using that walk-up?

00:15:07.178 --> 00:15:07.340
window.

00:15:07.340 --> 00:15:08.244
Oh yeah, absolutely.

00:15:08.244 --> 00:15:09.581
We have a doorbell and everything.

00:15:09.934 --> 00:15:17.123
By the time we opened, I think most of the COVID stuff had kind of blown over and people were more comfortable.

00:15:17.624 --> 00:15:31.548
Now the window is just a walk-up window for people sitting outside, so they don't have to come inside to grab their drinks and we can serve them out the window, okay.

00:15:31.567 --> 00:15:34.436
All right, so let's talk about that bar first.

00:15:34.436 --> 00:15:39.505
It is a smaller bar, but even so, I will say that I walked in and it was completely full.

00:15:39.505 --> 00:15:41.109
You offer beer on tap.

00:15:47.635 --> 00:15:49.720
So tell me what types of beer you're offering on tap?

00:15:49.720 --> 00:15:52.907
Mainly local, some regional and national brands, but a lot of local craft beer.

00:15:52.907 --> 00:15:58.118
Right now we have our Beachcomber, our Honey Blonde from Outer Dunes, which is our collaboration beer that we've done with them.

00:15:58.298 --> 00:15:59.078
Oh, tell me about that.

00:15:59.239 --> 00:16:00.080
Two years in a row.

00:16:00.080 --> 00:16:04.683
The folks at Outer Dunes, good friends of ours, we joined with them last year.

00:16:04.683 --> 00:16:10.549
We wanted to do a beer with them because collaborations are fun, and we made a Honey Blonde and it was a big hit.

00:16:10.549 --> 00:16:12.331
And it's been a big hit this year as well.

00:16:15.554 --> 00:16:17.018
You've got a shelf full of all different kinds of wines there.

00:16:17.018 --> 00:16:19.181
You have some standard wines behind the bar that you serve on the regular.

00:16:19.181 --> 00:16:26.476
But you also mentioned that you can go get a bottle off the shelf and open that, have some there and then take it home.

00:16:26.798 --> 00:16:28.923
Absolutely no corking fee or anything.

00:16:28.923 --> 00:16:33.140
We really do encourage customers to come in and enjoy a bottle of wine.

00:16:33.140 --> 00:16:37.958
Try some different things, bring a friend and you can make a day of it, or a couple hours at least.

00:16:38.841 --> 00:16:39.341
Yes, you can.

00:16:40.263 --> 00:16:42.587
Does anyone ever walk out with a partial bottle?

00:16:42.969 --> 00:16:45.001
No, it really does not happen.

00:16:45.557 --> 00:16:46.341
Not very often.

00:16:46.615 --> 00:16:48.423
They polish that off right there, I know.

00:16:48.423 --> 00:16:49.559
Or they make friends at the bar.

00:16:49.559 --> 00:16:54.654
We have seen so many relationships happen at the bar and friendships form and we've met so many awesome people.

00:16:54.654 --> 00:16:55.796
But our bar is kind of like a little it's a little.

00:16:55.796 --> 00:16:55.995
I love it.

00:16:55.995 --> 00:17:01.519
But Our bar is kind of like a little it's a little, I love it, but it's a little hub for people to meet and I've seen a lot of friendships forged there.

00:17:01.818 --> 00:17:07.722
It definitely has become that kind of a meeting point or a hub for the local neighborhoods.

00:17:08.123 --> 00:17:10.964
And do you get a lot of tourists coming in as well this time of year?

00:17:10.964 --> 00:17:11.884
Absolutely.

00:17:11.884 --> 00:17:17.348
When I went there, I had a coffee and it was delicious, by the way, I love to hear that it was before.

00:17:17.348 --> 00:17:18.509
I heard about the shakes.

00:17:18.509 --> 00:17:22.892
You do offer a full range of coffee drinks, but tell me about the shakes.

00:17:22.892 --> 00:17:24.952
Why are people raving about these shakes?

00:17:31.276 --> 00:17:31.836
It's the gelato.

00:17:31.836 --> 00:17:32.519
The gelato, oh, absolutely.

00:17:32.519 --> 00:17:33.320
Thank you, veggie Wagon.

00:17:33.320 --> 00:17:36.750
They do a house-made gelato for us that we make our milkshakes with.

00:17:36.750 --> 00:17:37.791
Oh, wow, okay, and it is fantastic.

00:17:37.791 --> 00:17:41.159
Gelato, if you don't know, is a little bit.

00:17:41.159 --> 00:17:42.263
It's a lot like ice cream, but it's less milk fat.

00:17:42.263 --> 00:17:46.122
It's turned a little bit slower so there's less air incorporation, so you get a lighter in taste but a creamier in texture.

00:17:46.765 --> 00:17:47.871
It really does make a difference.

00:17:47.871 --> 00:17:50.539
It definitely is creamy, yeah, so what flavors are you offering back there?

00:17:50.800 --> 00:17:51.663
We have quite a few.

00:17:51.663 --> 00:17:56.642
Our most popular is the green mint, which is my least favorite the chocolate chip green mint.

00:17:56.642 --> 00:18:05.787
We also do a salt marsh, which is the salted caramel and marshmallow which is our signature drink for coffee, milkshakes or whatever you want to make it with.

00:18:06.355 --> 00:18:11.145
And I saw somewhere on Facebook, or perhaps it was Yelp, but I saw smoothies.

00:18:11.145 --> 00:18:12.938
Are they one and the same You're offering?

00:18:12.998 --> 00:18:21.285
both, so a gelato milkshake, and then we do smoothies as well, which we make with a organic fruit puree, local honey, ice and your choice of milk.

00:18:21.285 --> 00:18:22.749
They're fantastic, I didn't know.

00:18:22.749 --> 00:18:26.586
And if you really want to get adventurous, you can actually replace the milk with wine.

00:18:26.775 --> 00:18:28.823
Let's go ahead and get to those wine slushies.

00:18:28.823 --> 00:18:34.548
First of all, do you have a special wine machine and are there different flavors?

00:18:35.494 --> 00:18:36.660
Everyone's made by hand.

00:18:36.660 --> 00:18:37.182
What?

00:18:37.394 --> 00:18:37.895
Made by hand.

00:18:37.895 --> 00:18:39.837
To order Now the machines.

00:18:39.837 --> 00:18:44.042
I do love a machine, but we started with this and they were doing really well.

00:18:44.042 --> 00:18:45.964
So if it's not in progress, we're not going to fix it.

00:18:45.964 --> 00:18:50.930
But we do the same concept as our smoothie, but we literally just replace the milk with the wine.

00:18:50.930 --> 00:18:57.242
Oh, so you get a five-ounce pour and you get a three-ounce of fruit and then ice and we blend it with local honey.

00:18:57.242 --> 00:19:00.108
It could be a wine that you have by the glass behind the bar.

00:19:00.108 --> 00:19:03.545
We have a red-white blend in the back that we use for wine slushies.

00:19:03.545 --> 00:19:06.721
Oh, okay, also, we do a sangria, which is my favorite.

00:19:06.761 --> 00:19:07.924
Oh, that would be so good.

00:19:07.944 --> 00:19:09.906
With a little bit of cinnamon it tastes tropical.

00:19:09.906 --> 00:19:18.921
For whatever reason I know it's a sangria wine slushie but they're very tasty and probably one of our most Popular that and the Prosecco, mango or the Strawberry Rosé.

00:19:19.141 --> 00:19:20.902
You really can't go wrong with any of the flavors.

00:19:20.902 --> 00:19:21.923
You really can't.

00:19:22.343 --> 00:19:26.925
Your store offers also an impressive selection of beer and wine from the shelf.

00:19:26.925 --> 00:19:33.010
So, garrett, how are you going about choosing which wines and beers you're going to stock on the shelf?

00:19:33.010 --> 00:19:36.232
And also, you mentioned what was the brewery you mentioned earlier.

00:19:37.035 --> 00:19:37.134
Outer.

00:19:37.154 --> 00:19:37.656
Dunes Brewery Outer Dunes.

00:19:37.656 --> 00:19:40.945
Are there any other breweries that you're working with to get your shelves stocked?

00:19:41.205 --> 00:19:41.626
Absolutely.

00:19:41.626 --> 00:19:50.757
We stock most of the local breweries Outer Dunes, mad Mole, flying Machine, wrightsville Beach, wilmington Brewing, bill's, waterline, and then regional stuff too.

00:19:50.757 --> 00:19:59.288
Like you know, the Veil Dissolver in Asheville, burial out of Asheville, and one of our new favorites that we're able to get now is Other Half out of Brooklyn.

00:19:59.688 --> 00:20:00.628
Brooklyn, New York.

00:20:00.709 --> 00:20:00.930
Yes.

00:20:01.430 --> 00:20:05.605
Oh my gosh, you named over a ton of local breweries.

00:20:05.684 --> 00:20:08.102
Yes, we're fortunate to have so many breweries locally.

00:20:08.122 --> 00:20:10.019
Yeah, truly, and some really really good beer.

00:20:10.019 --> 00:20:14.345
So these must be all the connections that you made when you were working down in Wilmington.

00:20:14.345 --> 00:20:16.576
Some of yes, well, that's nice.

00:20:16.576 --> 00:20:22.009
And the wine selection any specialty wines there, any local wines, are they standard?

00:20:22.154 --> 00:20:26.123
We do have a few wines from North Carolina sanctuary vineyards.

00:20:26.383 --> 00:20:27.325
Where are they located?

00:20:27.885 --> 00:20:28.988
Outer Banks.

00:20:29.528 --> 00:20:36.441
Okay, so a lot of our wines come from smaller vineyards, so they're less additives, low intervention, not mass produced.

00:20:36.441 --> 00:20:37.217
Absolutely.

00:20:37.217 --> 00:20:39.403
They're not trying to make the wine taste the same every year.

00:20:39.403 --> 00:20:41.971
You're going to have a different wine every year because they're not going to have.

00:20:42.313 --> 00:20:43.397
They're not adding things to it.

00:20:43.397 --> 00:20:44.986
You're going to get something really good in a bottle.

00:20:44.986 --> 00:20:47.497
In our prices we have something for everybody.

00:20:47.497 --> 00:20:50.324
We can beat grocery store prices at the bottle of wine.

00:20:50.324 --> 00:20:58.680
I can guarantee you'll be a lot better, less sulfites and just better for you all around nice, unless you drink the whole bottle our selection.

00:20:59.241 --> 00:21:02.913
Our selection is going to be stuff you're not going to find in the grocery stores, like at the Lowe's.

00:21:02.933 --> 00:21:03.295
Foods or something.

00:21:03.315 --> 00:21:12.865
There's a couple bottles that are popular, that people like, but 98% of our selection is going to be found only in a store like ours or a wine specialty shop Wonderful.

00:21:13.307 --> 00:21:15.220
Okay, let's go to the food.

00:21:15.220 --> 00:21:21.678
You have several refrigerators and freezers in there, so you have people who are stopping in for lunch, because I saw them there.

00:21:21.678 --> 00:21:25.839
So I'm assuming that you have like sandwiches and things that you can eat right there on site.

00:21:25.839 --> 00:21:27.921
But you also had some frozen foods.

00:21:27.921 --> 00:21:34.983
You mentioned taken bakes earlier, and then I did see some reviews about cheese balls and charcuteries.

00:21:35.144 --> 00:21:43.928
So we do have anything from sandwiches and wraps, salads, shakers, which are little chicken and rice and vegetables that you can literally shake with a little bit of dressing.

00:21:43.928 --> 00:21:47.670
I used to eat them all the time driving back to work when I would pick them up from the veggie wagon.

00:21:47.670 --> 00:21:54.252
We also have a lot of pre-made meals for dinner or lunch, but we have Garrett's favorite, the beef stroganoff.

00:21:54.553 --> 00:21:55.613
Yes, love it.

00:21:59.994 --> 00:22:01.786
Shrimp and grits and shrimp scampi are our two new meals and they've been a huge hit.

00:22:01.786 --> 00:22:03.234
We have spaghetti and meatballs macaroni and cheese Stuffed shells.

00:22:03.234 --> 00:22:04.900
Kung pao chicken.

00:22:04.900 --> 00:22:05.923
Chicken tikka.

00:22:06.515 --> 00:22:07.701
These are all family size.

00:22:07.701 --> 00:22:10.001
Like I could come home and feed my family a four.

00:22:10.021 --> 00:22:10.924
Some are, some aren't.

00:22:11.394 --> 00:22:12.560
Depending on how your family eats.

00:22:12.954 --> 00:22:14.655
I can make one last meal, a couple of meals.

00:22:14.655 --> 00:22:16.797
If Garrett's there, then it's going to be a one-mealer.

00:22:16.797 --> 00:22:18.057
We might be able to share it.

00:22:18.057 --> 00:22:19.278
It does depend.

00:22:19.278 --> 00:22:23.358
But we do have frozen meals as well that are a little bit more of a bigger serving, gotcha.

00:22:23.358 --> 00:22:26.040
We have lasagnas and we have vegetable and sausage.

00:22:26.040 --> 00:22:26.840
What about?

00:22:26.881 --> 00:22:27.840
the appetizers?

00:22:27.840 --> 00:22:30.982
Do y'all sell the cheese balls and the charcuterie plates?

00:22:31.502 --> 00:22:32.742
We have meat and cheese trays.

00:22:32.742 --> 00:22:36.684
We have habanero stuffed peppers, which are one of our biggest hits in that cooler.

00:22:36.684 --> 00:22:41.126
We have cheese balls, cheese ball samplers, stuffed grape leaves.

00:22:41.886 --> 00:22:43.607
And I saw the baked goods.

00:22:43.607 --> 00:22:50.750
I was there in the afternoon, but I have heard that it smells delicious in the morning and you guys are actually baking there on site every morning.

00:22:50.750 --> 00:22:51.590
We do.

00:22:51.590 --> 00:22:52.932
I saw like a.

00:22:52.932 --> 00:22:54.353
Was it a banana bread?

00:22:54.712 --> 00:22:57.134
Oh, yes, yeah, yeah, banana bread, no nuts, that's my favorite.

00:22:57.434 --> 00:22:57.976
It looked really good.

00:22:57.976 --> 00:22:58.556
It looked really good.

00:22:58.556 --> 00:23:02.059
It looked really moist, but tell me what other baked goods you're serving there.

00:23:02.180 --> 00:23:07.325
Sure, we do a bunch of cookies, anywhere from lemon, ginger, chocolate chip brownie cookies.

00:23:07.325 --> 00:23:08.926
We do peanut butter brownies.

00:23:08.926 --> 00:23:12.609
We have the sweetbreads, banana, cinnamon and pumpkin dark chocolate.

00:23:12.609 --> 00:23:13.912
We bake those daily.

00:23:13.912 --> 00:23:16.416
We also have sourdough and baguettes.

00:23:16.457 --> 00:23:17.720
We bake it as we need it daily.

00:23:17.720 --> 00:23:22.700
And also I noticed that your shelves are loaded with specialty food items.

00:23:22.700 --> 00:23:27.155
Those were the sauces and things that in the rubs that you were mentioning earlier.

00:23:27.155 --> 00:23:29.782
What are some of your hottest items that just fly off the shelf?

00:23:30.424 --> 00:23:32.940
It's always changing, so let me think about what do we have right now?

00:23:32.940 --> 00:23:39.502
One of my favorite things we have right now would be the Hank sauce and the Qualified Captain collaboration.

00:23:40.324 --> 00:23:41.826
The Hank Sauce and the.

00:23:42.248 --> 00:23:46.007
Hank Sauce Uh-huh, they make a variety of hot sauces.

00:23:46.007 --> 00:23:46.932
It's pretty popular.

00:23:46.932 --> 00:23:51.006
Okay, mm-hmm, but they've done a collaboration with Qualified Captain.

00:23:51.006 --> 00:24:01.810
It's a two-pack called In the Channel it's a green sauce of Sailor's Delight, okay, and the red sauce is the fish whistle, and they're good.

00:24:01.810 --> 00:24:02.673
It's a good little gift pack.

00:24:02.673 --> 00:24:10.686
Another one that I really get a kick out of that we did really well with and so we've kept for a while, is from Spicewalla, you know T-Pain.

00:24:11.167 --> 00:24:12.490
Yeah, they did a.

00:24:12.490 --> 00:24:13.311
Let me buy you a drink.

00:24:14.213 --> 00:24:16.679
That's the one he has a line.

00:24:16.679 --> 00:24:19.983
It's a set of three like a wing dust or seasoning.

00:24:19.983 --> 00:24:21.945
It's a set of three like a wing dust or seasoning.

00:24:21.945 --> 00:24:22.666
It's really neat.

00:24:22.826 --> 00:24:23.969
This is T Payne's line.

00:24:24.388 --> 00:24:26.592
Yes, that he did in collaboration with Spicewalla.

00:24:26.612 --> 00:24:29.875
Sugar Daddy, hot Daddy or what's the other one?

00:24:29.875 --> 00:24:32.406
I don't remember all the names of them, just Sugar Daddy is the only one I can think of.

00:24:33.221 --> 00:24:34.224
That's the only one you remember.

00:24:34.224 --> 00:24:45.342
That's the only one and one of the you know.

00:24:45.342 --> 00:24:48.838
Talking about the different things that we have and the surprises sometimes, one of our local favorites now is by Stammy's Pickles out of Cherryville, north Carolina.

00:24:48.838 --> 00:24:50.385
It's spicy pickled quail eggs.

00:24:51.310 --> 00:24:51.913
I saw those.

00:24:51.913 --> 00:24:53.781
They're a bit of a local favorite these days.

00:24:53.781 --> 00:24:55.306
They are good.

00:24:55.306 --> 00:25:00.290
I saw them on the shelf and I checked it out and then I was like I'll pass.

00:25:01.320 --> 00:25:02.303
I questioned it as well.

00:25:02.303 --> 00:25:03.365
Did you try them?

00:25:03.365 --> 00:25:06.400
Oh my God, they're really good, really, absolutely Okay.

00:25:06.400 --> 00:25:07.623
So it's just a boiled egg.

00:25:07.824 --> 00:25:10.590
basically right, it's tiny, so little.

00:25:10.590 --> 00:25:11.452
It's a good multiple.

00:25:13.544 --> 00:25:14.666
Yeah, so a regular-sized egg.

00:25:14.666 --> 00:25:16.111
You kind of have to bite it in half.

00:25:16.131 --> 00:25:16.432
Totally.

00:25:16.680 --> 00:25:18.266
So these are just one-biters.

00:25:18.266 --> 00:25:24.564
Pop right just you know they're doing one biters little poppers yeah, I do love a pickled boiled egg.

00:25:24.584 --> 00:25:25.926
You need to try them then I probably will.

00:25:25.926 --> 00:25:28.172
But I I remember, yeah, I did see that.

00:25:28.172 --> 00:25:29.260
I noticed that on the shelf.

00:25:29.260 --> 00:25:37.805
I'm like, hmm, you guys do have a huge variety of like novelty, almost foods in there yeah, it's kind of the name of the game.

00:25:38.066 --> 00:25:39.608
We it's always what's new.

00:25:39.608 --> 00:25:43.691
When people come in that come in there once a week, the first question they want to ask is what's new?

00:25:43.691 --> 00:25:47.321
I feel obligated now to always have something new on the shelf.

00:25:47.321 --> 00:25:49.969
How I find them and what we bring in really does vary.

00:25:49.969 --> 00:26:01.429
We try to bring in things that will resonate with, obviously, our customers, but also with the area I did notice that you had the Hampstead oil and vinegar up on your shelf, Miss Georgia's products up there.

00:26:01.489 --> 00:26:06.135
What other local food items are you bringing in from other stores?

00:26:06.339 --> 00:26:08.347
Hampstead Oils is a good one right down the road.

00:26:08.347 --> 00:26:14.093
Two more that jump out at me that we have great relationships with, and they're great products Lava Dust Seasoning.

00:26:14.093 --> 00:26:18.070
Ryan is a great guy and his steak seasoning is the best.

00:26:18.420 --> 00:26:19.762
Lava Dust Seasoning.

00:26:19.762 --> 00:26:21.488
Oh yeah, when is he located?

00:26:21.847 --> 00:26:22.349
In Surf City.

00:26:22.529 --> 00:26:23.111
In Surf City.

00:26:23.491 --> 00:26:23.653
Yep.

00:26:23.980 --> 00:26:25.606
Ah, I learned something new today, okay.

00:26:25.680 --> 00:26:27.528
Also Andrew with Dirt Road Coffee.

00:26:27.528 --> 00:26:31.349
He's right here in Surf City and roasts his own beans and we sell them as well.

00:26:31.529 --> 00:26:33.425
Nice Kathy with Gluten-Free by the Seam.

00:26:33.425 --> 00:26:36.683
She does all of our gluten-free baked goods and breads.

00:26:36.683 --> 00:26:38.366
We we do a lot of gluten-free.

00:26:38.366 --> 00:26:39.769
I'm actually gluten-free myself.

00:26:39.808 --> 00:26:40.148
Are you really?

00:26:40.348 --> 00:26:46.718
Mm-hmm, but there was definitely that need in the area to have you know there's nowhere serving, you know, gluten-free items, specialty gluten-free items.

00:26:46.738 --> 00:26:46.898
Yeah.

00:26:47.420 --> 00:26:49.125
So I try to bring in if anything we have.

00:26:49.125 --> 00:26:51.893
I try to always get a gluten-free option if it's available.

00:26:51.893 --> 00:26:57.625
Yeah, so it's definitely a lot of that, a lot of vegan Cravings.

00:26:57.625 --> 00:27:00.069
They're little like vegan baked goods, okay.

00:27:00.509 --> 00:27:01.392
And honey as well.

00:27:01.392 --> 00:27:03.134
Right, you have a local honey vendor in there.

00:27:03.134 --> 00:27:04.040
We do Cape.

00:27:04.141 --> 00:27:06.428
Fear General Store Brad Carter.

00:27:06.648 --> 00:27:07.211
Brad Carter.

00:27:07.211 --> 00:27:10.907
So Brockmore Pretzels is another local product that we're carrying.

00:27:10.907 --> 00:27:12.311
They're out of Wilmington.

00:27:12.311 --> 00:27:14.689
They do a big variety of flavored pretzels.

00:27:14.689 --> 00:27:17.779
They can be found actually in a lot of places in our area.

00:27:17.779 --> 00:27:21.872
They're very popular very quickly they are great pretzels.

00:27:21.872 --> 00:27:22.994
Absolutely.

00:27:23.055 --> 00:27:28.089
I was not going to bring them into the store because they are everywhere around us, but they're that good that I could not say no.

00:27:28.089 --> 00:27:29.320
Oh, really, absolutely.

00:27:29.320 --> 00:27:30.022
Say the name again.

00:27:30.243 --> 00:27:31.647
Brockmar, brockmar.

00:27:31.989 --> 00:27:37.701
And they have one pretzel that they've done in collaboration with the Sea Turtle Hospital.

00:27:37.701 --> 00:27:43.028
So they give some money back for every bag, or a portion of every bag, that's sold.

00:27:43.079 --> 00:27:44.743
That's an interesting collaboration.

00:27:44.743 --> 00:27:49.183
So pretzels and the sea turtle hospital and people love turtles.

00:27:49.183 --> 00:27:53.867
And so it's huge here oh yeah, so is it shaped like a turtle?

00:27:53.867 --> 00:27:54.981
It is not.

00:27:55.782 --> 00:28:00.133
But the flavor is margarita or salt and lime or something Really.

00:28:00.133 --> 00:28:02.594
They're really tasty, all the pretzels are.

00:28:02.614 --> 00:28:04.664
Okay, do you have that one in the store?

00:28:04.664 --> 00:28:05.000
Because?

00:28:05.020 --> 00:28:05.924
I'll stop by and pick that up.

00:28:05.924 --> 00:28:06.847
We sure do, okay.

00:28:07.840 --> 00:28:09.567
Let's talk about all the gift items.

00:28:09.567 --> 00:28:13.810
So I fell in love with so many of the gift items when I was walking through the store.

00:28:13.810 --> 00:28:17.146
I could have walked out of there with a handful of stuff like, truly, why didn't you?

00:28:17.146 --> 00:28:17.606
Why didn't you?

00:28:17.606 --> 00:28:23.026
Because, if I Good one, brandon Right, I was thinking about it the other day.

00:28:23.026 --> 00:28:26.170
I interview all these wonderful people who are selling wonderful products.

00:28:26.170 --> 00:28:31.633
If I purchased all that I wanted and got tickets to everything, I would go broke.

00:28:31.633 --> 00:28:33.758
I would make a dime, I understand.

00:28:33.817 --> 00:28:36.006
I totally understand, but I picked up that tray.

00:28:36.099 --> 00:28:37.726
There's a tray in there in North Carolina.

00:28:37.726 --> 00:28:38.489
It's a wood tray.

00:28:38.489 --> 00:28:40.845
The little key rings but it was Well, thank you.

00:28:41.025 --> 00:28:44.071
I also appreciate when people appreciate what I do and what we do.

00:28:44.071 --> 00:28:50.767
I love to hear that people can walk into our store and take a lap, and every time they take a lap they find something new.

00:28:50.767 --> 00:28:54.570
It really does take a while to come into the store and see everything we have.

00:28:54.570 --> 00:28:56.627
I still sometimes find things I'm like where did that come from?

00:28:56.627 --> 00:28:58.080
So it's a lot of fun.

00:28:58.080 --> 00:29:00.123
So it's a lot of fun, it's an experience.

00:29:00.123 --> 00:29:04.489
Obviously, being a tourist location, people want to bring something home with them when they come to the beach.

00:29:04.489 --> 00:29:07.172
Yeah, right now we have these keepsake ornaments actually.

00:29:07.251 --> 00:29:15.432
So you put sand in them or shells or whatever it is you find it has Topsail Island on there so you can take it home with you, or a tray with Topsail Island.

00:29:15.432 --> 00:29:18.825
We have all sorts of things that are very Topsail Island-centric.

00:29:18.825 --> 00:29:19.906
It's an all-serve city.

00:29:19.906 --> 00:29:20.667
We have candles.

00:29:20.667 --> 00:29:22.029
We have custom candles as well.

00:29:22.211 --> 00:29:24.835
Homemade soap yes yes, it smells so good.

00:29:24.835 --> 00:29:29.311
It's great for people who are here vacationing and they want to take a little piece of North Carolina back with them.

00:29:29.311 --> 00:29:34.230
But it was also stuff that, as a local here, that I would want in my home as well.

00:29:34.491 --> 00:29:34.992
Absolutely.

00:29:34.992 --> 00:29:35.861
It makes me think of.

00:29:35.861 --> 00:29:38.767
We have some dish towels that are done from Printed Hughes.

00:29:39.086 --> 00:29:39.247
Yes.

00:29:39.468 --> 00:29:41.030
Laura with Printed Hughes oh.

00:29:41.090 --> 00:29:44.182
Printed Hughes, yes, and she does fantastic work.

00:29:44.222 --> 00:29:47.029
We sell a bunch of her kitchen towels and stuff like that.

00:29:47.029 --> 00:29:48.113
She is very local.

00:29:48.440 --> 00:29:49.663
So she offered classes.

00:29:49.663 --> 00:29:51.791
At one point I took a class.

00:29:51.791 --> 00:29:57.711
I love watercolor and so I thought I'll be able to go in there and make my watercolor look as good as her watercolor.

00:29:57.711 --> 00:29:59.705
And I was like it didn't look anything like it.

00:29:59.806 --> 00:30:01.151
They never do, and she's good.

00:30:03.079 --> 00:30:06.191
It was terrible and I realized that day that I have no artistic ability.

00:30:06.191 --> 00:30:18.028
However, when I went to choose my logo for Toppsville Insider, I fell in love with her watercolor so much that when I found that image, that watercolor image, I got that from her look and feel.

00:30:18.067 --> 00:30:19.351
I see it yeah.

00:30:19.912 --> 00:30:25.805
So who are some of the local makers that you partner with when you're curating these items for your store?

00:30:26.566 --> 00:30:30.821
We actually do business with a, I think a 12 year old young lady.

00:30:30.821 --> 00:30:32.865
I think she's 13 now 13.

00:30:32.865 --> 00:30:39.845
Really, she finds her short teeth on the island, yeah, and handcrafts earrings out of them.

00:30:40.105 --> 00:30:40.626
No way.

00:30:40.626 --> 00:30:42.752
And she's selling them in your store, yep.

00:30:42.752 --> 00:30:44.205
Well, she should be very proud.

00:30:44.420 --> 00:30:45.444
With the money she's making.

00:30:45.444 --> 00:30:49.710
She should, Because we sell a ton of those little things Do you really?

00:30:49.730 --> 00:30:50.855
Oh my gosh Good for her.

00:30:50.855 --> 00:30:52.685
Yeah, and she matches them perfectly.

00:30:52.859 --> 00:31:00.164
And of course our parents are good friends of ours and we've met them through the store, so it's a real organic thing of they shopped with us and we became friends.

00:31:00.164 --> 00:31:02.967
I said you know she has these earrings, would you like to see?

00:31:02.987 --> 00:31:05.048
if it works, they're right by the register.

00:31:05.048 --> 00:31:06.089
You can't say no to them.

00:31:06.089 --> 00:31:08.372
They're shark tooth earrings found right there on Topsail.

00:31:08.372 --> 00:31:11.875
She's an entrepreneur at 12, 13 years old.

00:31:11.894 --> 00:31:12.394
What's her name?

00:31:12.394 --> 00:31:13.236
Annabelle.

00:31:13.536 --> 00:31:14.056
Annabelle.

00:31:14.537 --> 00:31:14.856
Awesome.

00:31:14.856 --> 00:31:17.422
How do you follow those trends?

00:31:17.422 --> 00:31:20.107
How do you know what's hot right now and what's going out of style?

00:31:20.729 --> 00:31:22.732
You never really know it's out of style until you're not selling it.

00:31:22.732 --> 00:31:24.866
Oh, you just wait for the numbers to drop.

00:31:24.866 --> 00:31:27.463
We're there at the store, so much so when things aren't moving.

00:31:27.503 --> 00:31:39.192
I really get to see that, and so I try to change, like where they are maybe in the store, give them better shelf spacing, but I just I do a lot of scrolling as far as what other stores are doing what's popular on TV.

00:31:39.192 --> 00:31:43.162
Stores are doing what's popular on TV.

00:31:43.162 --> 00:31:50.617
I mean, they're all trends and so I'm not on Facebook or Instagram very much, but I definitely try to stay in the know.

00:31:50.837 --> 00:31:52.502
All right, guys, we're coming to the end here.

00:31:52.502 --> 00:31:55.738
I want to find out are there any future plans for Salt March Market?

00:31:55.738 --> 00:31:58.027
You mentioned that you are looking to open another store.

00:31:58.027 --> 00:32:00.896
That seems like it's not immediate.

00:32:00.896 --> 00:32:03.026
Are there any plans that you can tell us about right now?

00:32:03.881 --> 00:32:05.267
Nothing immediate but we do.

00:32:05.267 --> 00:32:07.787
Our full intention is to open a second store.

00:32:07.787 --> 00:32:08.670
It always has been.

00:32:08.670 --> 00:32:15.978
We do have to find a really special spot to open another salt marsh, but we're also looking at other business ventures as well.

00:32:15.978 --> 00:32:17.724
Absolutely, because we do need to do something else.

00:32:18.227 --> 00:32:18.949
What else you got?

00:32:18.949 --> 00:32:20.319
What else are you thinking about?

00:32:20.500 --> 00:32:21.826
All that remains to be seen.

00:32:28.119 --> 00:32:28.862
Okay, all right, so final thoughts then.

00:32:28.862 --> 00:32:30.646
What is the main thing that you want listeners to take away from the conversation today?

00:32:30.646 --> 00:32:33.595
About you, garrett and Brandy, or just about Salt and Marsh Market?

00:32:34.181 --> 00:32:39.401
I think for us and what we've done, it's really about the sum of the parts we could.

00:32:39.401 --> 00:32:42.848
The three of us could have the same ingredients and not bake the same cake.

00:32:42.848 --> 00:32:45.624
Mine's probably going to be better than y'all's.

00:32:46.346 --> 00:32:46.969
Do you bake much?

00:32:47.680 --> 00:32:55.923
But so you know, taking all the things that we have at the store and just throwing them all in, it's not an easy step-by-step.

00:32:55.923 --> 00:32:57.209
Connect the dots one, two, three.

00:32:57.209 --> 00:33:06.143
There's a lot more to it than that, a lot more gray area and tangibles, and that's what makes our store special is Brandy and I and our staff.

00:33:06.664 --> 00:33:11.867
We have great staff, the heart, soul of the store is us and our staff.

00:33:11.867 --> 00:33:12.381
It's the people.

00:33:12.401 --> 00:33:15.425
They're an extension to our staff for sure, starting from scratch.

00:33:15.425 --> 00:33:28.782
So many people I did not even know are now really good friends and that's what's really cool, I think, in Surf City because we are a small community still even with all the people still very small, and that's really neat to watch.

00:33:28.782 --> 00:33:33.580
Watch that grow from kids that were in strollers to now bouncing off the walls.

00:33:33.962 --> 00:33:39.022
And we'll continue to see these kids that we've seen in strollers, and one day they might be working there for us, who knows?

00:33:39.022 --> 00:33:42.633
Yeah, but we really do love being part of the community in Surf City.

00:33:42.633 --> 00:33:44.948
We were very welcomed and we love it.

00:33:45.440 --> 00:33:46.884
Do you ever see yourself moving here?

00:33:46.884 --> 00:33:47.244
Absolutely.

00:33:48.067 --> 00:33:51.343
Absolutely, oh yeah, for sure, depending on where that next business is.

00:33:51.663 --> 00:33:53.807
That's a lot of it too, and interest rates.

00:33:57.173 --> 00:33:57.674
That's the truth.

00:33:57.674 --> 00:33:58.984
Yeah, it truly is.

00:33:58.984 --> 00:34:08.123
